Xbox one S controller battery charging

I am using a third party USB cable connected to the console to charge the battery. But it has no led light. So how will I know the battery is fully charged?

Same.

The cable will keep my Xbox one s controller active but the light won't come on and it isn't charging.

It sounds to me like the controller needs some kind of update to allow the old Xbox one battery.

You could try putting the charged battery into the controller with the dead battery. Or hook up the charging cable to the dead controller and the Xbox One.( It will charge while you play)

With the xbox turned on and the controller connected if you press the home button it should show the charge information on the controller battery.

The information should be displayed in the top right hand corner of the screen on the home menu.

hi, it has been charging for over 2 hours and the on screen battery indicator you mention remains blank. i thought it would show gradual progress of charging but it isn't. is tgis normal. i have the one s console.

What type of batteries are you trying to charge? If it's rechargeable AA, then they cannot be charged in the controller. The only batteries that can be charged that way are the play and charge batteries. To charge AA batteries, you will need a separate
AA battery charger.

Hello Jeff when using the charge cable you can also unplug it from controller give it a few seconds and then see what the charge icon shows on the home screen. Sometimes when cable connected wont show the correct charge due to it charging.

Just a few questions though.

When plugging in any other devices or controls does the cable light up?

Once the USB is unplugged, at the top right of the screen it'll show the battery life of the control.

As stated in this link for support tips on charging controls ---
charge-USB

It says "The LED on a Play & Charge Kit cable will not be lit, indicating there’s no battery available to charge."

Just make sure there is battery life on the control or make sure the cable works, and if not try another cable and just watch the battery life go!

thanks everyone for the advice. my mistake was trying to recharge third party batteries.

so in the end i went and bought the official xbox one battery pack.

so thats problem solved.

I have the same behavior with my new Xbox One S controller. However, the controller will not work at all with the plug and charge battery. Does your S controller at least power on with the battery?

Hi there,

The Xbox One S controller uses two Double A (AA) batteries to power on wirelessly. You can also use a

Play & Charge kit to have the ability to recharge your controller. So long as the batteries are standard to Double A you should have no problem powering the Xbox One S controller.

The Xbox One Wireless Controller

To troubleshoot the wireless controller, try using AA batteries, or try a different Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Pack to verify that nothing is wrong with the controller. If the controller works with different batteries, it isn't causing the issue.

The Xbox One Play & Charge cable

To check whether the cable is the problem, try a different Play & Charge cable (or any standard USB to micro-USB cable) to charge the battery. If the battery charges correctly with a different cable, your charge cable is faulty.

The rechargeable battery

To troubleshoot the rechargeable battery, try the following:

Use a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol to clean the four gold contacts on the Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Pack and on the Xbox One Wireless Controller. Then try to charge the battery again.

Try a different Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Pack with the charge cable. If the second battery charges correctly, your original battery is faulty.

Same here, the same problem even with full charge. I tried with stylus batteries and also with the play&charge kit, using the Xbox One X black controller included with the console and also an Xbox One S controller (the white one with Bluetooth and audio
jack).
