Xbox One S controller auto-connect via bluetooth (without unpairing and re-pairing)

I am able to connect my Xbox One S controller to my Windows 10 PC using Bluetooth. However what really drives me nuts is the fact that whenever I reboot my Xbox Controller, it does not automatically connect via Bluetooth to the PC. It seems that I have to unpair the device (remove device), and then pair again my controller. This is really not user-friendly. Is this normal or should it connect automatically with the controller? What can I do to make this process more easy?

    :)

Xbox One S controller auto-connect via bluetooth (without unpairing and re-pairing)

Thanks for the reply. I have already the latest firmware on my Xbox controller. I tried the above steps and at one moment it worked with auto-reconnecting, but I couldnt reperform it.

I also tried my Xbox controller with a different laptop that has built-in bluetooth, and there the auto-connect worked flawless. So it seems the problem lies with my Windows 10 PC and/or bluetooth dongle (which is a cheap one I bought from Aliexpress). But would trying a different dongle really make a difference?

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

You should get the Xbox Wireless adapter for Windows 10 if you can. It'll make this way more easier and in my experience, the random disconnections will stop as well.

Hello @JohnKimble94! I hope that you are doing well today!!

Have you checked to see if you have the latest firmware for the controllers? I would suggest the following solutions. please give it a try and let us know the results!

Power cycle to your controller :

    1. Press and hold the Xbox button for 5-10 seconds, until the controller turns off.
    2. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the Xbox button again to turn the controller back on.
    Update the controller:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Under Profile & system, select Settings.
    3. Under Devices & connections, select Accessories.
    4. On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “” to check the firmware version for your controller.
    5. If it says there’s no update available, your controller is current. If it says “Update,” follow the steps provided.
    6. Once your controller is updated, disconnect the USB cable and try connecting wirelessly again.
I hope this helps you out!

I know that there is the adapter, but it is kinda expensive and I rather solve it with the bluetooth method
