XBOX ONE S CD Drive is faulty

I bought this xbox one s (1TB) last year in march. I have only two disc games, one of them being COD WW2 (To give a time frame). The CD Drive (4mo after warranty expired) has stopped working, after minimal useage (was not offered extended warranty). Done
all kinds of troubleshooting with XBOX Tech supp, with no results. Now im being told "there is nothing they can do, unless i pay $160 for repairs", after paying nearly $400 a little over a year ago.......

Why do i have to pay for faulty equipment which was factory installed into a "high tech device"?

I have an Elite 360 that i got when it came out and it still works till this day. Never any CD drive issues and that CD Drive is more exposed to the elements than the ONE S!

MS this is terrible customer service and im considering reporting you all to the BBB+ for selling faulty equipment to paying customers.

Your customer service is nothing but a ping pong game between departments that have no answers. Just filling a complaint is a mission. You all are better than this. I don't know when you all became so money hungry, and dropped your level of integrity and
good customer service.

Even i hate to admit this, but Playstation might be getting my hard earned money instead.

:)

Question about buying games with disc vs. downloading the game to a hard drive
Also, if it`s a downloaded version and your hard drive goes faulty you lose everything!

-

So, disc copy every time. The same goes for CD`s and DVD`s too!
Surely, the same principle applies for discs.

If the disc breaks you're screwed.

If your disc drive breaks you're screwed.

If your HDD breaks, you can't play Xbox anyway, whether it's a download or a disc.

If your disc drive breaks, you can still play downloads.

Also the Xbox 360 HDD is more reliable than the optical drive.

Physical disc every time.

They are always cheaper, available earlier and you can sell them on again when you are done.

Playstation would do the same thing if you have to send one of their consoles in after warranty. That's pretty standard with most electronic companies these days.

Smh so far i have heard of and know a few people who have had the same issue, all within the same time frame. Xbox knows this is an issue, just like the 360 did with its overheating problem. When mine overheated i was able to send that in well pass my warranty
with no charge.

I guess reporting to the BBB+ is the next move, bc times are too hard to be spending hard earned money on a so called "quality device", for Microsoft to not own up to it's mistakes and responsibly fix the problem.

I will be pushing this issue.

Sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience.

Could you describe what the support suggested you should do?

I sometimes have the issue as well, that my console wouldn't detect a disc, but that is usually because a stuck OS process is blocking the drive, or because "phantom fingerprints" (as I call them) cause the laser to be unable to read the disc, even if the
disc looks clean.

So please try the following method which usually worked for me:

Eject the disc in the drive and then hold the power button on the console for about 10 seconds. Then turn the console on, and check that the console displays a green bootup screen. If it doesn't show a green boot screen and goes to the Home Screen immediately,
hold the power button for 10 seconds again, and turn the console back on.

While the console is starting up with the green screen, take your disc to the kitchen. Apply a small drop of mild dishwasher soap to the silver side of the disc, and "massage" the soap around the silver side with wet fingers.

When the surface of the disc is completely covered in soap, rinse the disc under running water.

Shake the disc several times to get the water off, and wipe the remaining drops with a soft, lint free cloth.

In the mean time, the console should have finished booting.

Insert the disc, and check that the game tile for the disc appears below the main game tile in the row of the recently played games, and that it has a disc icon in the corner (a circle with a dot).

Can an Xbox One S optical drive be used as an external usb disc drive for the Xbox Series S?
