Xbox One S Blu-ray upscale removed?

After being an Xbox user and Live subscriber for nearly 10 years now, I recently upgraded my Xbox one to an Xbox One S model. My main reason for doing so was the feature of upscaling Blu-rays to near 4k definition.

After some tweeking and a lot of googling (one article!) I found that this feature has been removed!!!

    Xbox Ideas, powered by UserVoice

Are there plans to reinstate this? As the users suggest when the console released it was a feature, but was patched out.

I bought the console specifically for this, and feel let down that it wasn't made clear this feature isn't included anymore!

    :)

Xbox One S 4K upscaling for DVDs and standard Blu-rays

I would like to purchase a 4K Blu-ray Player for my new 4K TV, and the Xbox One S seems like a good choice since it can be used for gaming and other entertainment as well. However, I would also like to play non-4K discs (480p, 720p, 1080p) on the Xbox One
    S using a 4K TV.

    So, my question is:

Does the Blu-ray App on Xbox One S upscale SD (480p DVDs) and HD (720p & 1080p standard Blu-rays) discs to 4K?

Xbox One S doesn't display 4k on Normal Blu Rays it converts 1080p

My xbox one S works greats with all Ultra Blu Ray plays them in 4k and video games in all 4k no issues with that . Tv set is UN65JS8500FXZA .

I would of thought the player would upscale the regular blu rays to 4k output...

I wouldn't know about it being "removed", but I've seen a few threads about people questioning about how the Xbox One S has never done this in the first place, ever since the launch of the Xbox One S.

Regular Blu-Rays are natively 1080p, and people have been reporting that the video output of the Xbox One S simply switches to 1080p, rather than staying 4K and upscaling. However, your 4K TV hardware already upscales video output to take up the whole 4K
screen anyway, so I wouldn't imagine there being much difference. Please note that upscaling 1080p to 4K doesn't "enhance" the picture definition, it's just stretching the image.

I don't know that it's ever been removed, but here's that tweet from Mike Ybarra (he leads the Engineering/Platforms team at Xbox) confirming the feature will be added in the (near) future:

    4K content

Xbox One and Xbox One S are 1080P Gaming

Xbox One S will play 4K Blu Ray's

Xbox One X will play Game in 4K if they are Enhanced with 4K Support + 4k Blu Ray support

They Xbox One X will also Upscale on a 1080p screen so you will see some benefit of the Xbox One X

    up scale standard blu ray?

"Ultra HD" Blu-Rays will play in 4K. Standard Blu-Rays will play in 1080p.

The Xbox One S will only output to the highest resolution offered by the Blu-Ray disc it plays.

I suppose this design choice was in mind because 4K/UHD-TVs already process and upscale a lower resolution image to "cleanly" use all of the 3840x2160 pixels, so it's not putting unnecessary load on the Xbox One S CPU.
