Xbox One S Black Screen

Hi all, my problem is with a black screen after power on the console I tried all steps from Microsoft troubleshooting page and none work. Occurs after a new 2TB external hard drive was installed. Does anyone have the same issue and has it solved?

Xbox one s won't boot uo

New Xbox one s console.

Turn it on and Xbox comes up on green screen then black screen then restarts.

Help fixing this please.

My xbox one s error code 0xd0000189, Standby and restart Black screen ,Screen flash and with the machine heating,Who knows what happened?

Hi there,

since you mentioned it happened after connecting an external hdd, please try the steps without the hard drive connected to on of the usb ports.

if none of the steps mentioned on the support page: Troubleshooting a Blank Screen TV or Monitor While Your Xbox One is on
result in a solution then I'm afraid that the console is likely in need of a repair steps to set that up are mentioned on the same page.

Hi Tegsome1,

I would recommend connecting the external drive to a PC/Laptop and if it is detected then what needs to be done next is a reset to the external drive itself.

1. Plug the drive into the port on the PC or Laptop

2. Go to files explorer

3. Locate the drive (is it detected)

4. If detected, right click then format

This will wipe the drive. After, eject the drive then plug the drive back into the console port

Side Note: it may have you format to match the console in NTF format

Also, I do agree that it would be best to look into
Troubleshooting a blank TV screen or monitor while your Xbox One is on

I bought my Xbox One S in December 2018 and currently i'm experiencing 2nd black screen in a few months.

I got first black screen in January 2019 and got my xbox fixed by Microsoft. Now in June 2019 i got 2nd black screen. So frustrated!

I'm curious what did they fix? What is causing black screens? I'm also playing my games on external hard drive to not strain the internal hard drive but black screen keeps happening.

I've tried troubleshooting steps (except the usb update cause i don't remember my dashboard version and i still have black screen) so i'm confused nothing works.

I'm thinking if it gets fixed for a 2nd time i'm going to sell my Xbox One S and buy an Xbox One X so maybe i would have better luck with different hardware. I really don't know... my white Xbox 360 Pro is still alive and never got red ring of death and
Xbox One S keeps breaking with black screens. I'm lucky with Xbox 360 but so unlucky with Xbox One S. I'm so disappointed with Microsoft hardware.

no its not on the S. It's only Xbox One (1st generation 2014 Era) released xboxs that are being reduced to black screens. Microsoft wants us to buy new ones

My Xbox one S cannot play all my UHD now. Once I inserted the disc, the screen stayed in black all the time. When I pressed button to exit the disc, the screen still remained black without going back to the main menu of Xbox. 1080P discs worked fine.
