Xbox One S Audio Stuck on Headset Profile

I have an Xbox One S connected directly through HDMI to an Onkyo TX-NR656 receiver which is connected through HDMI to a Samsung KS8000 television. When I look at the audio settings page on the dashboard the option to send audio through HDMI is grayed-out
and the headset option is picked. There is no headset connected to the system, I do not even own one. I cannot change the setting and therefore am not getting surround sound through my receiver with either games or blu rays. Both HDMI cables are high-speed.
Any help on how to disable this headset setting and choose audio through HDMI would be greatly appreciated. The system is passing video (including HDR) as expected. Thanks!

    :)

Can i connect a third party bluetooth headset to Xbox One S?

i was checking if voice chat audio only was enabled over bluetooth headsets for Xbox One S?

For anyone still plagued with this issue, with wireless headphones, you'll need a controller with an audio jack or the adapter.

My Xbox One S, with the September 2018 patch, simply disconnect the wireless headphones and plug standard headphones or cell phone earbuds into the controller. Give it a minute or two, then unplug them. enter the sound settings ams change the headphone
audio "uncompressed stereo". Exit the sound settings and re-enter the sound setting and your HDMI setting will be available. You can then re-setup your wireless headphones with any of the options needed.

I hope this helps others with this issue.

Unfortunately, that did not work. After several power resets, hard reboots and nearly a complete factory restore, I found this to work. For some a power reset is sufficient. It may also have something to do with the Dolby Atmos Headphone setting as
it originally would not allow any default headphone format. I have the Turtle Beach 800X Elite which sounds great with the Dolby Atmos but with no HDMI audio selection, no theater sound - just plain compressed stereo.

my xbox headphones are bugging out

    Hi Jimmy,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Xbox Community. I understand that you're having issues with your Xbox headset.

check the headset settings in the Xbox Accessories app. On Xbox X|S and Xbox One consoles, you can access the Accessories app in the Settings menu: Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories.

Make sure your headset is updated with the latest firmware using the Xbox Accessories app. On Xbox X|S and Xbox One consoles, you can access the Accessories app in the Settings menu: Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories.

In addition, check if you have the right audio settings:

Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the menu. Select the Audio icon to modify the settings. On the next page, you can find three options: Headset volume, Headset chat mixer, and Mic monitoring. Make sure to set the Headset chat mixer to 40-60%.

If none of the troubleshooting steps worked for your situation, reset your audio settings:

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output > Audio Testing & Details > Reset audio settings

    Keep me posted.

    Regards,

    Alvaro
