Xbox One S audio cuts out for a second every 30 minutes when 4K resolution selected.

Issue: audio cuts out for a second every 30 minutes when 4K resolution is selected on Xbox One S only. If I drop it back down to 1080p, the audio cut out disappears. Note, the audio drop occurs on ANY content in any app, not just 4K.

    - happening on Xbox One S only obviously as the Xbox One non-S is not 4K capable

    - using official MS Xbox One S HDMI cable connected to a 2016 brand new LG TV where all HDMI ports support HDMI2/HDCP2.2, audio cuts out

    - tried a different HDMI cable, audio still cuts out

    - tried using optical cable connected to soundbar, audio still cuts out

    - adjusting down to 1080p eliminates issue (also eliminates the whole reason I bought the One S in the first place)

This is clearly an Xbox One issue, not my other equipment as verified by the above. The cables don't matter, using both TV and/or soundbar doesn't matter, the Xbox One S is creating the problem (and only if you select 4K resolution).

Xbox User fugettaboutit77 also reports this issue so this a clearly a thing. He has swapped out for a new Xbox One S and the issue persists.

    :)

Audio Crackling has made a return with the most recent update.

I have the same issue as fugettaboutit77.

On an Xbox One S, using the official MS HDMI cable connected to a brand new 2016 4K LG TV (all ports support 4K HDMI2.0/HDCP2.2), the audio CUTS OUT for a second or 2 then comes right back.

    - This only happens when I select 4K resolution on the Xbox One S.

    - If I try a different cable, the sound cut out still happens.

    - If I connect to a soundbar using an optical cable the audio cut out still happens.

    - If I take it back down to 1080p, the audio cut out doesn't happen.

Thus, with myself and fugettaboutit77 both reporting this, the Xbox One S itself is the culprit and this is an official issue.

happens once every half hour or hour or something, almost like a signal is cycling or something...

this is gonna have to be fixed. I won't put up with it. $400 unit where the sound cuts out...Nonsense.

Xbox one s 4k / audio cutting out every 30 secs

    Hi

having some audio issues with my one s via home cinema, details below

    UE48JU6400 = 4k Samsung TV

    HT-J7750W = Samsung blu ray 7.1 home cinema 1080p with 4k upscale

    Setup connection sequence - Xbox One S > HT-J7750W > UE48JU6400

Problem - Unable to set xbox to display 4K resolution but audio works fine

Setup connection sequence - Xbox One S > UE48JU6400 (Using ARC) > HT-J7750W - This allows the 4K with HDR settings to be available and display correctly

Problem - Audio cuts out every 30 seconds for 1 - 2 seconds

    Troubleshooting carried out -

Switched audio to tv speakers, this resolved issue

Connected optical cable from Xbox One S > HT-J7750W, changed settings on xbox to allow optical audio still same issue

Tried another HDMI cabe from Xbox One S > UE48JU6400, still had same audio cutting out issue

so issue seems with the audio getting from the tv to the home cinema i would assume, anyone else having the same issue?

Additional Research of issue - Have looked in to this issue online and some people had the same issue with LG tv's which has now been resolved by a software update to their tv.

Xbox One S audio cuts out for a second every 30 minutes when 4K resolution selected.

Sorry no solution for you, just saying that I have the same problem. Xbox One S on an LG 4K OLED (OLED65G6)

I haven't played any games yet, just watched 4K Blu Rays and streamed Netflix.

Audio cuts out for me every 7 or 8 minutes.

I've tried 3 HDMI cables on 2 different ports on the TV.

I've disconnected everything else from the TV and plugged Xbox power directly into the wall outlet so I could rule out every possible point of interference.

I've tried all the different audio settings I could find on the Xbox and the TV.

Contacted Xbox support and they told me to get the box replaced.

Got the replacement, and have the exact same problem.

I also don't seem to have any issue when I put it down to 1080p.

Looks like I'll only be an Xbox owner until the end of the return period.

7 or 8 minutes is much faster than mine. mine seems to be 20 or 30 minutes...I'm in the preview program and no updates have fixed the issue thusfar. i submitted the issue to xbox support on twitter yesterday....

i would have thought it had to do with some kind of HDMI metadata cycling issue but it doesn't seem to be tied to HDMI....

I did a little more testing on mine to see if I could narrow it down.

I think I did, but it doesn't really help me.

My TV has 4 HDMI ports and 2 of them have an option for "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color"

I can watch at 4K and I do not have the problem on the 2 ports that do not have that option. I also don't have the problem if I disable that setting on the other 2 ports.

Unfortunately, that means No HDR and that's no solution for me.

Can you confirm that on yours? If it's not the same, I guess we have different problems.

    Hi There,

I also have Xbox One S 2tb, LG OLED55E6p 4k, currently using the internal speaker on the TV. I have the same issue where the audio will pause for a small moment and then resume, seems to happen once every 30 minute or so. It happens during games, Netflix,
Hulu, and disc bluray playback. I also agree that the issue seems to be the Xbox, and not the other equipment. I searched quite a few forums trying to find people encountering the same issue, glad it is not just me! I am also using 4k as the setting on
the xbox, with HDR enabled on both the Xbox and my TV.

Xbox One S audio cuts out for a second every 30 minutes when 4K resolution selected.

I'm going to try leaving 4K enabled, but uncheck HDR and see if that does anything...If that does it, it must mean the Xbox One S is cycling some kind of metadata or query regarding HDR to keep it active or not or who knows what...I know there are other
unrelated issues with One S and HDR, especially with the Netflix app. If you you start Netflix, it will tell my TV to use HDR even if the program or movie you're watching has nothing to do with HDR (most don't - only a few like Marco Polo I think does)....Don't
understand what HDR (which only affects visuals) would have to do with a sound cut-out, but it possibly messes with memory in a way that has a side effect of a brief audio cut-out. I have no idea...I'll fiddle with it over the weekend....

Just a quick note, unchecking HDR on the Xbox did not work for me, I had to do it on the TV side. I also reboot the xbox after every setting I change... just to be sure.

When I googled "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color Audio" I came across others with similar issues but not Xbox.

I'm going to try to go from 10 or 12-bit down to 8-bit on the Xbox One S video settings and see if reducing to 8-bit does anything.

If that doesn't do anything I'll try to disable deep color on the LG like you did and see if that reproduces your success. Will be good to get rid of the audio drop, but that will also make the TV less useful. You're right that Ultra HD Deep Color does increase
bandwidth usage which might cause a signal drop (but that shouldn't happen with HDMI2 and these fancy high speed 18Gbps cables). I don't know why it's an audio signal drop instead of video or why it's every so often. but I think you've got it figured out...

So then it'd be 1 of 4 things:

    - LG HDMI port sucks up too much bandwidth when deep color enabled

    - Xbox One S sends too much bandwidth when deep color enabled

    - HDMI cables that are supposedly high speed (even 18Gbps) simply suck and can't do the bandwidth they advertise (which I *** well know is true at certain distances, even with supposedly "certified" cables -- I've tested a bunch from Amazon and most of the
longer distance cables can't do 4K @60Hz even though they flat out say they can -- absolute lies)

    - yet another HDMI/HDCP handshake problem (even though all the specs say HDMI2 and HDCP2.2)

Hard to know since I don't have another 4K source other than the TV's smart apps themselves (which are obviously on board thus not using HDMI). Those smart apps don't have this problem making it sound like an HDMI issue...but the Xbox apps like Netflix also
have other issues using HDR so I'm not sure...

    Hi Chomsky,

Do you have any further information regarding which HDMI cables to avoid or which cable lengths cause the bandwidth issues? Any recommendations on which ones do support 4k @60hz? I will need a good one because I will also be connecting my computer to the
tv and using it sometimes as a second monitor or gaming panel.

The official MS HDMI cable that comes with the One S will do 4K @ 60Hz (6.5ft length) perfectly fine I think. Once you get beyond 20 feet or maybe even 15 feet a lot of cables start to poop out. There are tons of very long (25 feet +), very highly rated,
supposedly high speed (up to 18Gbps) cables on Amazon that claim to do 4K @60Hz. They don't. They're highly rated because so many people (probably 95%) are using them for 1080p, and they work just fine for that. But more and more 4K reviewers are starting
to give these longer cables 1-star reviews. People are even complaining that Redmere "active" cables (that are 1-way directional) are failing for 4K.

A few people on the AVSforum like this one:

Certified Premium High Speed HDMI® Cable, 20ft

    www.monoprice.com/Product

...but it's only 20 feet. I'd like a 35 foot cable for a home theater room. For now, I'm forced to have the One S in a game room next to the TV. The monoprice cable has an HDMI.org certification so it probably really does what it says it can do...

Xbox One S audio cuts out for a second every 30 minutes when 4K resolution selected.

I have a Vizio M65-d0. I get this same issue but it also cuts out video. So black screen no sound. Have tried 9 different HDMI cables. Only solution is to disable HDR. Others are also having this issue on AVS.

I too am having this same issue. 2TB XB1 S connected directly to a Vizio M65-D0. If I turn off 4K, I have no issue. Otherwise the problem persists in every app/game to some degree. On Netflix, both the sound and picture cut out to a black screen every 10-20
minutes for about 5 or so seconds. On games, the same happens but it goes to a no signal jumbled picture and will stay that way until I either switch to another input and back again or unplug/plug the HDMI cable. I assumed it was due to Microsoft using crap
cables so I ordered a new one. Will retest and see what happens when it arrives on Monday.

Decay, I have the same issue with the same TV... Have tried everything but an Active HDMI cable. Still this has not been resolved. I ordered an active HDMI cable from monoprice but I highly doubt it will fix it. If it does I will let you know.
