Xbox one s at 120hz using a 1.4 hdmi to 1.2 dp adapter on my asus pg258q

Hello, just a quick question regarding 120hz on xbox. I use a asus pg258q its a monitor that supports 240hz over display port and 60hz over hdmi, i recently bought an active hdmi 1.4 to display port 1.2 adapter which i bought for the new xbox. on my pc it allows for 120hz gaming but on my current xbox one s every time I press 120hz option it says out of range, the issue with this is if it says out of range in this current gen won't it dont do the same thing on next gen? If someone either knows a way to fix this or if they have any information regarding if it will work on the new generation of xbox's that would be great thanks alot.

    Hi,

I take it you've attempted to do this via an adaptor?

I'm going to disappoint you. Currently there are no HDMI 2.1 to DP 1.2 adaptors.

My guess is you've bought a DP to HDMI adaptor cable, correct? If you have, you've bought the wrong cable. These cables only go one way.

Buying an adaptor won't work anyway. Like I said earlier, there are no HDMI 2.1 or 2.0 to DP 1.2 cables. HDMI to DP cables are HDMI 1.4 which max out at 1080P @60Hz or 4K @30Hz, 1440 won't be an option.

They can't add Disport Port Support without a newly revised console with the port built in.
Hey thanks for your answer, I have got display port 1.4 to hdmi 4k@120hz adapter, i thought it would be possible as I connect the HDMI coming from the xbox in the adapter then into the monitor, but nothing happened so i thought maybe a software update that reads the DP could fix it, but I'm just guessing, I don't know how it exactly works

HDMI to Displayport converter for monitor

    Hi,

That cable won't work as it's a Display Port to HDMI cable. You need HDMI to Display Port. These cables only work one way, they are not bidirectional. They also need to be 'Active', i.e. they need a power source to work.

Not only that, it's not possible to get an HDMI 2.0 (let alone HDMI 2.1) to 1.4 Display Port adaptor. The only one's I've seen are HDMI 1.4 to DP 1.2. These cables are bandwidth limited and typically max out at 1080P/60. I'm afraid 120Hz may not be an option
    for you.

Can you tell us what monitor you have?

Will the Xbox Series S be able to run 120hz @ 1080p

    HDMI 1.4 x2 ports

    Display Port 1.2 x1

Your screen will be ok for 120hz on series s but support for 120fps in games will be dependent on the game istself, some will focus on 60fps some will float about but as you have freesync then the xbox will use VRR so all should be ok.

Bought XBox One S for 4k - 4k not working.

    ^^Active DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0a adapter.

    **Edit**

I'll learn to read one of these days.

It's cheap though, it might be worth trying for the price.
wrong item , what he wants is a passive converter hdmi 2.0 to DP 1.2, and as it is only 1way device, the One you cite is wrong!
