  1. Xbox One S and Epson 5040UB

The Xbox One S does not recognize that the Epson 5040UB projector can handle 4k with 10 bit color at any refresh rate. I get checkboxes on the setup screen for 4K and HDR, but it says it doesn't support 10-bit (it mentions apps that support it can use 4K
in 8-bit). This means any UHD Blu-Ray I try to play does not play with HDR on and Netflix won't even show HDR support. Though both work in 2160p with BT.709 8-bit color.

According the the signal info from the projector, it's receiving the BT.709 color space (standard dynamic range) rather than BT.2020 (HDR). I know the projector definitely supports HDR10 (aka BT.2020). If I try 1080p, I can get 10-bit color working, but
it's still not with HDR on.

Does anyone have any idea why it wouldn't work?

    :)

Epson 5040UB : Your TV setup doesn't support HDR10 for gaming. Games won't be shown in HDR

    Hi,

I received my new Xbox One X today but found out that the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5040UB is not being recognized by XBOX as a compatible device that can run HDR10 gaming.

    But, this projector definitely supports HDR10 ( BT.2020 ).

Also, YouTube's videos cleary shows Epson 5040UB running 4k HDR games on PS4 PRO.

So why Xbox One X games can't be shown in HDR while PS4 PRO can ?

Is this something that will be fixed soon with firmware update ?

I think the solution would be to allow HDR10 with 1080p displays, since this projector uses 4k enhancement technology., that's why PS4 did, and hope XBOX can do it as well.

    Thank you.

  3. Xbox One S HDR

Identical issue here with the Epson 5040UB:

    forums.xbox.com/.../2202158.aspx

It oddly recognizes that the projector supports HDR but all modes are listed as unavailable and it will not pass an HDR signal.

Also having this identical problem. I tried several things in an attempt to resolve it and I'm fairly sure the issue is the Xbox and not the projector. I have a 3 foot certified HDMI cable for 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 (and also tried this with the supplied Xbox
one cable) which I direct-connected to the projector and it reports 4K capable but cannot do HDR at 10-bit at any refresh rate, though oddly it reports that it's HDR capable which seems to make little sense as there's no mode listed as supported. I've gone
through every permutation of the settings menu I can think of and it just doesn't work.

Confirmed. I'm seeing the same issue. With any luck, Epson's new line will gain enough market traction that Microsoft will take notice. Given their interest in selling 4K compat Xbox One S systems, hopefully this will be addressed sooner than later.

  6. Saw this just now also. Cnet had huge problems with a number of sets getting the Xbox to output HDR:

  7. Exactly the same issue. I have the Epson EH-TW8300 which is the Australian model number for the 5040UB. Tried through my reciever and direct connecting to the projector with multiple HDMI cables. Tells me it's 4k and HDR compatible but has the yellow exclamation
mark for all of the 10-bit points and says my TV setup isn't compatible with 10-bit. It's weird that it has the tick for HDR compatible even though all the 10-bit stuff says it doesn't work, and no HDR gets output to the projector.

  9. There is mention of this on the avsforum.

Here is the quote and link if you are interested:

I spoke to one of the senior technical gurus at Epson. Several days ago I alerted them to the fact that the Samsung UBD-8500 was not passing 10 or 12bit, and only Rec709. The guy who I spoke to today said because of that they went and purchased the Xbox
One S, Samsung, and Phillips. As I stated yesterday, and now confirmed by Epson, the Phillips is the only player capable of doing 10/12bit. The Rec.2020 is only a container for the P3 color space. The Epson cannot natively do Rec.2020. When the Epson receives
HDR, it converts it to the HDR2 preset, which is for P3 color space for the Digital Cinema setting. However, manually switching to HDR1 preset in Bright Cinema mode gives you P3 color space. Bright Cinema mode is best for HDR. The partial 12bit in the manual
refers to it dithering 10bit signal to 12bit. Many current TVs that advertise HDR are 8bit that dither to 10bit. All in all, I am very happy with the capabilities of this projector.

I'm having a similar issue, my projector is getting 4k during game play but not when I put a 4k disc in, it's getting 1080p then. Is this happening with anyone else?

    Hey BriteSmile21 -

The issue you're describing sounds different than the one originally being described. I suggest creating your own thread detailing your issue, please be sure to include the projector you have (make/model) and any further details.

    Thanks!
