Xbox One S - Alternate MAC Address 'Spoofing' No Longer Works for Hotel Use

I hope this saves people hours of searching.

As the title reads, using an Alternate MAC address no longer works on the Xbox One S.

I tried for hours to figure out how to change the MAC on my new Xbox One S, so I could use it while I am at a hotel (I travel a lot). When I went into Advanced Network Settings and changed the MAC, the system rebooted, but reverted back to the old MAC.

I even tried to change the MAC address on my laptop Wifi adapter to match the Xbox One S so I could spoof it that way, but Windows requires Alternate MAC addresses to start with a 02.

Finally, I contacted Xbox support and they informed me that the Xbox One S does not support Alternate MAC Addresses. They noted my concern, but did not have a resolution.

I am now trying to figure out an alternate solution that does not require a hot spot service.

I am very disappointed as I bought the new Xbox One S so that I could use it when I travel.

XBox One February Update - Multiplayer Bug with Alternative MAC Address

Workaround for those in needs on alternate on hotels, etc.... Just grab your xbox one mac address and spoof on a laptop. Authenticate with the stupid hotspot, then migrate laptop ip, etc to xbox. Im playing like this right now. BUT THE ALTERNATE MAC

Xbox won't change to alternate MAC address.

If you need to specify an alternate MAC you can do the following. Alternate MAC address, is basically MAC spoofing where you type a MAC in, and should generally only be used for troubleshooting or more technical people. The physical MAC of the NIC cards

Open Settings on the Xbox One.

Select Network.

Select Advanced settings.

Select Alternate MAC address.

Type in the alternate MAC address and press Enter.

You will have to restart the console for the change to take effect.

To find your network MAC

Open Settings on the Xbox One.

Select Network.

Select Advanced settings.

Then look to the right for the physical MAC address.

I found a solution for those in need, but it requires you to purchase a travel router.

1.) Purchase a travel router that supports WISP.

2.) Connect to the travel routers web interface using a computer, tablet, or phone (via Ethernet or Wifi).

3.) Using the web interface, connect to the hotel internet servicing using WISP mode.

4.) Try going to a webpage and you should be directed to the hotel's Wifi gateway.

5.) Enter your room or other info and get connected to the Wifi service.

6.) Either plug the Xbox One S into the travel router using Ethernet or connect to it's Wifi network.

You should now be on Xbox live using the hotel internet (assuming they do not have it blocked).

I ran into this bug over the weekend trying to connect X1 over WIFI at hotel since you need to spoof the MAC address of the computer that registers with the hotel. Everything on the system itself connects fine but no multiplayer games work. Fortunately,
I had an ethernet cable that I was able to use and once I switched over to wired everything worked great. I assumed the hotel was blacking over wifi until I did some searching on the Internet.

Being an infrastructure IT guy I was perplexed by the problem so I started digging into it which I deduced it to the alternative MAC address as well.

- wifi with alternative MAC does not work in games but system is ok

- ethernet with alternative MAC works

So what I did was spoof the xb1 MAC address from my laptop and registered it with the hotel which worked.

Beside sharing your computer's Internet connection, you can simply use/spoof the physical address (MAC address) of the authorized computer and use it as the alternative MAC address for your console.

Hotel's often use 802.1x for their WLAN's, which is an authentication protocol, not supported by the Xbox 360, nor the Xbox One.

The IE app on your console won't work without connectivity to Xbox Live.

You can either choose to use your computer and share its Internet connection to your console, or use your computer's MAC address and spoof this address for your console.

The following solutions depends how you connect to your hotel's network.

The tip from "category two" describes how to alter the MAC address on the 360, but it works the same for the Xbox One (Alternative MAC Address).
