Xbox One S adapter for the Kinect

It is a disappointment indeed. Sellers on Amazon who do sell the adaptor sell for over 2x the normal RRP! and won't ship to NZ (some of them won't ship to Australia either). And then there's EBay Australia who are selling them for AU$200-AU$500 or maze well
call it NZ$600 when Microsoft had an RRP price of NZ$58! I have an Xbox One X. Because of this, I'm keeping my Xbox One Day One Edition console with Kinect as storage some place tucked away. I have Kinect Sports Rivals and Zoo Tycoon which support it.

With Kinect, you can:

- Scan a QR code to redeem content within 1-2 seconds rather than typing out a long 25 key code accurately first time round.

- Console video chat with friends

- Use it to chat and send voice messages and voice commands

- Play over half a dozen games which support it in some way

I *have* considered selling it or giving it away. Maybe I'll sell if for $10,000 since EBay loves charging kwazy prices which are TEN TIMES ABOVE THE NORMAL RRP for an adaptor. I've noticed several New Zealanders selling their Kinects and/or consoles. And
Microsoft charges NZ$5,000-$10,000 for their hololense thingy. Sony charges like NZ$500 for PS4 VR device. I don't even think Sony have discontinued their PS4 eye camera thingy. And I did try PS4 for a few months last year but sold it. My like is for Xbox.
PC dominates with the amount of games and users, yet PS4 fans think they're better than anyone else. They used to talk hardware until Xbox One X was announced.

However I only like play Zoo Tycoon and Kinect Sports Rivals a few times a year, since like 2 years ago. There's a few games coming out this year I'm interested in. Jurassic World, Prehistoric Kingdom. Also need to make some progress
with Final Fantasy XV. Minecraft Super Duper graphics is being delayed severely cause Microsoft is figuring out how to make super duper graphics pack work for the S and Original Xbox One consoles since those consoles have relatively weak hardware and since
Microsoft doesn't want to give special treatment just to the X console. Other games I'll be playing this year will be The Sims 4 and Planet Coaster. As well as YouTube and Netflix. I'm planning on upgrading my TV which I've had since 2011 to a Sony KD43X8000E
4K HDR. It's expensive. But I can use some of my savings money. But doing so means I won't want another TV, at least for the next 8 years since that brand has a low failure rate which is why my original Sony KDL40EX720 is still going well after 7 years but
it has an old processor, no HDR, and only 1080p, colours aren't premium, etc.

The Kinect Port ought to have been put on the slim version. K there are maybe too many middle aged older people that say "Kinect is useless I prefer old school controller". There is a lot you can do with Kinect. The price of a brand new Kinect is cheaper
from Microsoft than the price of a brand new Elite controller with the controversial maximum 90 day warranty as standard that Americans suffer (in other jurisdictions like Australia/NZ, your legal rights offer a longer warranty of at least 12 months). But
then again there's only so much you can put in the slim version, and maybe Microsoft did it to keep costs down or they thought not many people use Kinect. Kinect is a lot of fun on Xbox 360/Xbox 1.

1. signing in onto your console securely, without pin or password.

2. 100% wireless hands free nothing on your head or ear(s) or shoulders, voice chat

3. sending voice messages

4. voice commands, which use to be a Kinect Exclusive feature until all these people whined about it.

5. Console Video Chat

6. QR code reader. Flash the card and it's fun and your done. No having to painfully enter in accurately a 25 digit code (which is old school, people still wanna do this?! which is so time consuming when compared to QR code scanning to redeem XBL content.

7. Play some games which support it, like Zoo Tycoon, Kinect Sports Rivals (I love the jet boating in it!).

8. Kinect can see things which the naked human eye can't, like infrared and spirits, in 'what else can Kinect see', it shows you normal view, a colorful view, and a shadowy view. And it can be used as an amateur security camera. If you have a PVR Hauppauge
or Elgato like lots of Youtubers do for video gaming, you could capture the video recording of Kinect, just an idea.

Kinect will appeal more to the younger crowd since it lets you do a list of stuff you can do with it. You could lose your mic, break your mic (it is made out of cheap plastic), my dog ate it, my sis or brother is hogging it. Hopefully Xbox Scorpio will have
a Kinect port. But you'll get people who are too stubborn to even try Kinect. And Kinect IS much cheaper than VR technology and those more expensive VR bulky goggles you put over your eyes.

Ok, a few answers to your list of reasons:

1: I can sign in using my controller and it doesn't use a pin or password.

2: I agree with this, but for a lot of people it didn't work.

3: Again, for a lot of people it didn't work.

4: Again, for a lot of people it didn't work.

5: erm................ok, but how many people used it for that, I used it once and that was back in 2014.

6: Great idea, except only Microsoft used the QR codes, other games publisher just used 5x5 codes.

7: Yes, but how many games can only be played with Kinect, very few. Most can still be played without Kinect.

8: Kinect can see "spirits" seriously?

If someone wants to stream games and use a camera, why not just plug in a USB camera? you do realise that the Xbox One can do that now? it got added in quite a while back.

The Kinect was cancelled purely because nobody wanted it, perhaps if the original Xbox One had launched without Kinect forced on us gamers it may have done better in the "sales war" but I guess we'll never know.

Shaggy, do you even own and use a Kinect? If you do, you should know that you can switch between 3 modes which show you how Kinect sees things (1) normal naked human eye (2) colours (3) shadowy. Number 3 is particularly interesting. Sure there is technology
which can pick up supernatural things. Maybe we should ask Microsoft about this. Microsoft is the biggest software company in the world so they can create software which pushes the limits of hardware.

I encourage everyone to consider Kinect. But it's up to every individual's decisions and circumstances. Without Kinect, you're missing out on (1) Console Video Chat (2) being able to voice chat and send voice messages without a mic (3) QR codes flash for
2 seconds at the sensor, no need to tediously punch in accurately a 25 digit code to redeem stuff, granted this feature is not completely universal, but Microsoft utilizes the QR code to quickly redeem XBL content, with several content available (4) play games
which support it, such games which I have include Kinect Sports Rivals and Zoo Tycoon. (4) Like Windows Hello, you can use Kinect to securely sign in onto your console without a password or pin. And it can differentiate between twins.

Kinect adds to the Xbox experience.

Yes I own a Kinect and have used one (just check my achievements)

As for can the Kinect "see ghosts" it cant.

Here is how the "shadowy" picture is done on Kinect, on the Kinect there is an emitter that blasts out infrared light, this infrared light bounces of solid objects and is picked up by the infrared received (also built into Kinect) however this receiver is
not 16:9 it is 4:3 (you can tell because the "shadowy" image is not widescreen)

So, using the theory that Kinect can "see" spirits, these spirits must be solid because the infrared light bounces of them, but wait, that cant be right because normal light passes straight through them.....................

How about this as an explanation, its a glitch in the software?

Kinect turned out to be a flop, and they've been gradually phasing it out of the Xbox One for quite some time. That's as far as I can tell from how everything's going with the Xbox lately.

An adapter is
available for free if you already own the original Xbox One, the Xbox One S, and an Xbox One Kinect sensor.

If they are phasing it out as you say, then how are you now going to use Cortana? Cortana has been moved over to Xbox which would now be a waste of time.

The FREE Kinect adapter was back in DEC 2016. You had to have purchased and Xbox One With a Kinect and purchased and Xbox One S from Dec 2016 to March 1st or so of 2017.

That promotion has long since been discontinued
