  1. Xbox One S - a few steps forward but many backward (vs Xbox Elite)

So the Xbox One S is announced and yet it looks like a couple of steps forward and a few backwards.

I always assumed technology moved forward.

So the Xbox One S is smaller, and has built in power supply. Excellent. It has better 4K support, OK.

BUT, as an Xbox One Elite owner, you then look at the Elite and S and say , the S has a much worse controller (the Elite as a number of features above and beyond the regular or new S controller), the Elite as a hybrid SSD/HDD 1TB hard drive, ok the
S has a 2TB but it is back to a regular slower HDD, the Elite has the port for the Kinect, the S will require an adapter that no doubt we will have to pay for to use the Kinect on S, and of course the Elite is black like all the kit under my TV, and the S
    is garish white !

So some forward and others backward.

Was it too much to hope the S would take the best Xbox One i.e. the Elite and move that forward, instead we get a forward and back stop gap until Project Scorpio ships 2017.

So alas no move to S for me for now.

    :)

I'm Not Buying Anymore Games Until Project Scorpio!

Yep I'd be willing to play the downgraded Xbox vs Pro version of a game today knowing that the best version will be on Scorpio. There's also that Elite controller thing.

Who's to say there isn't an X1s Elite in the works? Give it a few months and you'll probably see one just in time for Xmas.

One mans "step forward" is another s "step back", as I would rather have a power brick; I had two 360's that would have had to go in for repairs if it wasn't for the ability to plug-n-play a power source.

Not really a fan of the hybrid drives either.

    Peace, J.R.

Some valid points..... especially hard drive wise and controller wise. For $499.99 CND the X1 S is a bit pricey, IMO. HD space has never been an issue with me. The 4K would be the reason for myself to pick it up, and the size of the unit. I'm thinking Christmas
may be the time to buy a S, once all the bugs are out and it comes down in price.

Well Max Factor, I would say that I agree and disagree.

The built in power supply is great for saving space. But I put the power supply out of the way. And it does get warm. My PS4s get very warm due to the internal power supply. So as good as it is, the external would be my pick.

4K is definitely a nice step. But will require the TV/monitor to take advantage. So a positive or not depending.

The hdd/ssd is nice. Sure, they hybrid drive is cool. But I have to say that my son has an elite and outside of a little faster load times it is not amazingly better. A faster hardware interface would be nice. My external drive speeds game loading up
    to a nice degree already.

The controller is a different story. You pay more for the console to get it. I can buy it separate as well. So I could easily have an Xbox One S and elite controller.

The only thing I hope is that MS decides to use a faster interface on the new consoles for the drive due to 4k content support. I am positive the Scorpio will but I have not seen anything about the Xbox One S in this regard.

I have to say I disagree. If they added the Elite controller the console would cost around €70 more. I think they want to keep it as competitively priced as possible especially with a new console coming next year. People would be more willing to spend €299
than €350 or more for the 500GB console.

If they had to manufacture these with a Kinect port on every console that will also drive costs up. It would probably be cheaper to make a limited number of adapters since most people that bought a console bought them without a Kinect. Also you have to wonder
how many people with a Kinect are going to upgrade anyway.

Plus it's not like it's the same old controller with the S. Sure it's not the Elite controller, but it now has bluetooth, it has a longer wireless reach and it now has a rubber texture grip on the back. It's still an improved controller.

Just think how much smaller the S could have been if they kept the power brick external.

Yes no Kinect port is a biggy. Also while the storage size is better they still only use outdated super low 5400rpm HDDS and the storage is probably non replaceable without opening the console. Its 2016. SSDs should be the norm for devices. Dont tell me
theyre going to be using an HDD for xbox scorpio. It takes a PC 2 minutes to boot up on an HDD. But only 9 seconds with an SSD.

  14. I never see slim consoles as being a huge advancement in technology anyway so I think looking at it that way is a bit silly. I think you're better off comparing the Elite to the Scorpio as that is meant to be an advancement in console technology, not making
a product smaller with upgraded storage space etc.

Personally I think moving forward without Kinect is progress, but that's a different argument, haha ;-p

There is halogens or VR. But that may be left to Xbox Scorpio as it should have good enough hardware to handle VR or halogens or however you spell it. As for Kinect, it's unique to Xbox, and it shouldn't die so soon. You can use it for certain games like
Kinect Sports Rivals and Zoo Tycoon and others, use it to voice chat, send voice messages, voice commands, QR codes, Skype video chat on your console, etc.

One BIG upside to the Slim is you can stand the console upright/vertically. You can't do that with the original Xbox 1 consoles (a) because of it's size, It isn't designed to be placed upright because it's bigger than the Xbox 360 slim console (b) the Philips
disc drive in the original Xbox 1 console version isn't designed to function vertically. Another upside is it's made in White. Honestly, manufacturers are OBSESSED with BLACK. A reason why Apple is successful is they make their devices slim and colourful,
    not just in black.
