    Xbox One S 3.5mm controller - mic doesn't work

I just got a new Xbox One S (Gears LE) and seeing as it did not come with a headset, I am trying to use my Phillips Noise Cancelling headphones. I have them connected to the controller via 3.5mm cable and sound works fine. However, the mic doesn't seem
to work at all. I get no monitoring and no one can hear me. The mic is supported from the headphones via 3.5mm and works (tested it on phone)

I also tried using my iPhone earbuds and it just gave unpleasant noise when mic monitoring was turned up even the slightest.

I am unsure if the issue is with the controller, some setting I missed (mic is turned on, I've cranked up all volumes as well), or if the controller simply won't pass the mic from the headset.

Any insight would be much appreciated!

    :)

Using a PC headset on the 360

My PC headset has two 3.5mm jacks, one for audio and one for the mic. I bought a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter so that I could plug my mic cord into that to plug into the xbox controller. I then plug the audio jack into the monitor so I can hear game sound. My
mic doesn't work though. In Black Ops 2, the mic symbol appears beside my name, but it isnt when i talk. it appears, then disappears (flashing i guess). I also can't send a voice message either.

Technical Microphone adapter questions!!! Dedicated mic and headphones!

Okay so, I have a question regarding the headset adapter for the Xbox one controller. I picked it up, and see that there is a standard 4 stage 3.5mm headphone jack (headphones and mic in one 3.5mm jack). I have a quite expensive blue bird xlr mic, as well
as a pre-amp that can output to 3.5mm. So the question is, if I get a 3.5mm 4 stage splitter that will split the mic and the headphones into two 3 stage 3.5mm female inputs, will I be able to have my studio quality mic and dedicated headphones connected to
    my controller, working?

Sorry for the complicated question! Hopefully it works, because a studio quality mic would be amazing! I figure it would since its a standard 3.5mm input

  4. Xbox One S 3.5mm controller - mic doesn't work

The mic doesn't work for a lot of people right now, microsoft messed up something in their software this last update.

Many people on my friends list are telling me their mics aren't working, and mine isn't either.

The screw-up is on microsoft's end this time, they need to fix whatever they did ASAP

This may be a really dumb question... But to use my headphones this way, do I need the stereo adapter? I have the "new" controller type that has the built in 3.5mm jack.

I should also note that in party I get no green circle. I do see the icon for headphones/mic in the top right.

I have also tried multiple aux cables with the same results.

  8. Xbox One S 3.5mm controller - mic doesn't work

Xbox firmware I'm assuming, I'm just not sure why some people's mics work and some don't.

If I'm in a party with someone who can still talk, I can hear them over my headset(s), but they can't hear me talk, and the xbox doesn't pic up any sound from the mic.

I went out and bought a Turtle Beach XO 4 Stealth and it works with the module and without. However, my headphones do not work with the module. So I am wondering if it is how the headphone delivers the mic signal. It can differ between headsets. Perhaps
something in the update changed the detection or how it handles the input?

Party chat through Xbox App while hearing voice/game audio through headset connected to controller

    Hi there Horito,

Thanks for the reply. I was able to take a look into some resources. If you are using an Xbox One Controller, you will need the following components:

    • Xbox One headset adapter
    • 3.5mm CTIA Splitter cable (3 lines on the jack)
    • 3.5mm jack to jack auxiliary cable ( 2 lines on the jack)
You will need to connect the Xbox One headset adapter to the Xbox One Controller. Then the 3.5mm CTIA Splitter cable (3 lines on the jack) connects into the adapter. The splitter cable will be identified as headset and mic. The 3.5mm jack to jack auxiliary
cable ( 2 lines on the jack) will be used in the mic cord to the Yeti Mic.

    Hope this helps.

Xbox One S - Microphone Not Working

    Update Y'all

    Thank you for the support.

I had some older black controllers I was using and did go through updating them and still nothing when using the 3.5mm headset(s).

I went to gamestop and got the original xbox chat headset - the one with the little adapter that plugs into the bottom of the controller and NOT the 3.5mm one.

    THIS ONE WORKS!

I tried with the 3.5mm headset on the same controller - no dice. No mic on the 3.5mm works but this chat headset does work. This includes any of the 4 controllers I have, or 3 headsets I tried.

I am not sure if I want to send this into Microsoft at this point or just go with it.

Now I am going in and downloading all the games/apps again because I tried wiping the unit and starting over this morning and it still didn't work.

Now my son and I can chat so at least its something.
