    Xbox One S 1440p on 4k monitor

I have just installed the latest xbox insider spring update 1804. This is supposed to offer among other things, the 1440p resolution. The problem is that i am the owner of a 4k gsync monitor with displayport and hdmi 1.4, and when connecting the xbox one
s on said monitor through the hdmi port, the 1440p option is not visible, when obviously the monitor and the cable and hdmi input support the resolution. Could something be done to alleviate the problem? Even with a future update. I mean to expose all the
supported resolutions of a monitor. Up until now the connection of the xbox one s on this monitor has been nothing short of frustrating. I cannot use the 4k output because of the hdmi 1.4 input, there is no hdmi 2.0 to displayport adapter to fix this through
the displayport input and now, after hoping that at least i could use the new 1440p resolution support which is well within hdmi 1.4 specs, again i cannot. Any help would be appreciated.

    :)

  3. Error on xb1x selecting 4k

The Xbox One X supports 120hz only at 1440p and 1080p resolutions. It does not support 120hz at 4k. So unless your TV or monitor supports 1440p resolution (many don't), you will only get 1080p when selecting 120hz.

    Xbox One S 1440p on 4k monitor

I'm not in the Preview Program thingy, have an Xbox One X console still in it's 12 month manufacturer warranty, have a Sony 43' KDX8000E 4K HDR TV, and my 4k connection is working fine. Yay. And YES Microsoft already has 4k support on Xbox One X. The Xbox
One X can do some 4k gaming since it has better hardware than the S model (12GB GDDR5 @ 326GB/s bandwidth, a faster processor, vapour cooling is better than air cooling).

  5. I am not sure how Microsoft decides which displays are "allowed" to display 1440p, but I'm seeing two explanations circulating around the internet:

    • While the HDMI 1.4 specifications state that it supports 1440p60, some monitors with HDMI 1.4 ports may not support that resolution over HDMI at all. The manual for your monitor model should have a list of supported resolutions in detail for each connection.
    • The Xbox OS, by design, doesn't let you select resolutions higher than 1080p if you're
aren't on HDMI 2.0 (or higher).

Since 1440p support is still in the testing stages of the Insider program, features and requirements are subject to change. If you want to be absolutely safe with 1440p, you will want a display with an HDMI 2.0 port.

When connecting my pc through hdmi, i can use the 1440p resolution normally, and i can use resolutions up to 4k 24Hz. So maybe it has to do with your second point that for anything over 1080p i need hdmi 2.0. I guess i will never be able to use this monitor
with anything other than my pc. Pity. Anyway, thank you very much for your response.

    4K/1440p HDR

Microsoft locked hdr to 4k so if ur monitor dont accept 4k signals ( tick allow 4k box in settings must be selected for hdr) it doesnt work on 1080p 1440p displays usually only if they accept 4k signals. Because microsoft locked it since xbox one s and
one x. It is hard to understand why they not allow it now because they have xbox series s 1440p 120hz hdr console right?

    Xbox seriesses i geuss

the series s support up to 1440p but to use that resolution you would need a monitor not a tv as most if not all tv's support 1080p or 4k.

series s will upscale to 4k though.

    Xbox One X won't output 1440p at 120hz

I would look into your monitor and call DELL not Microsoft. I also have a One X and have never had any problems, as soon as select 120hz it automatically drops me down from 4K to 1440p. You must be misunderstanding something about your monitor as there
must be a defect of some sort or your monitor does not support 1440p at 120hz.

For reference, before responding I booted on both my One X's. One is connected to a Samsung 4K QLED and I had no problem switching from 4k 60 to 1440p 120. My other X is connected via an LG 4K monitor and again when selecting 1440p OR 120hz it automatically
selects 1440p or 120hz without any issues.

Can't choose 1440p resolution with 120hz refresh rate on my Xbox Series S.

    Hi,

The Samsung S28AG700NU is a 4K monitor. Why are you trying to run it in 1440P? The Series S can run in 4K, the games will not render in 4K, but console can still be in 4K.
  12. Problem Investigator Win User

My LG Monitor supports 1440p @ 120 hz but xbox series x wont let me do it . Caps it at 1080 120

This worked on a xbox one s connected to a LG 32GN600

    1. Goto Settings/General/Tv & Display options, under Advanced select Video modes and Uncheck everything.

    2. Under Advanced select Video fidelity & overscan, Set Display Overrides to Auto-detect, 1440p 120hz will not be accepted with anything but the following -->Set Video fidelity Color depth to 24 bits per pixil (8 bit).

    3. Set Resolution to 1440p, set Refresh Rate to 120hz, it worked for me.

After 1440p 120hz was accepted, the following could be changed:

Video fidelity, Color depth, 30 bits per pixil

Video modes, Allow variable refresh rate. (monitor confirmed)

    Video modes, Allow HDR10

Video modes, Allow 4K. (In Halo Inf, HDR only worked with this checked, the monitor reported a 4K 60hz signal with HDR when playing, after exiting Halo the signal returned to 1440p 120hz.)

Note: A new Resolution 4K UHD, 60hz was added to the dropdown lists Only after doing steps 1,2,3 above (in that order) and checking Allow 4K. This option works on this monitor. Xbox upscales to 4k and the monitor downscales to 1440p.

    Supported Hdmi Pc 1440p 120hz timings are HF183khz, VF120hz, P+/+
