    Xbox one S @ 120hz set up

Hi, I have a Xbox one S and need help setting it up. I have a Lenovo G24-10 monitor capable of 144hz. I’ve used both the HDMI cable supplied and with the Xbox one S but can’t seem to set it up @ 1080p -120hz.

    Settings >display>resolution

    I have options for “1080p” or “720p”

    Settings>display>advanced>video modes

I have “allow 50hz”. All other options are greyed out apart from “allow variable refresh rate”

    Thanks.

    :)

    4k 120hz issue

    Hi,

Do you have the Xbox One, or the Xbox Series S? You'd be surprised how many people get the names confused.

If it's an Xbox One S, then that console doe not support 120Hz @ 4K. Also, the HDMI out on the Xbox One S is HDMI 2.0, not 2.1. Only the Xbox Series S and Series X support 4K @ 120Hz via the console settings. The One S is only 1080P.

Bear in mind also, that there are no games for the Xbox One S that do 120Hz (or 120 fps). The 120Hz option is only there to support VRR (variable refresh rate).

If you want to play 120Hz supported games, you will need a Series X. The Series S support of 120Hz games is a lot more limited.

Note that on the Qn95a, only HDMI 4 supports HDMI 2.1

    Xbox one S @ 120hz set up

pretty much pointless setting at 120hz as the one s can barely hit 40 fps in big games if that. some small games may hit 60fps.

I will preface this by saying I am not a monitor expert at all (my knowledge is mainly desktops and laptops) so it may not be accurate...combined with what I am about to say is what I recall hearing/reading some time ago.

Not all monitors advertised as 144Hz will do that naturally. You monitor's native display is 1080p@60Hz (no clue why you are getting the 50Hz bit)...to get to 144Hz, I believe it uses the Variable Refresh rate (VRR) to, essentially, overclock the monitor, much like a graphics card can be overclocked for better performance.

The problem you have is that, from what I understand, the Xbox needs specific settings to run certain refresh rates...so, in your case, to run at 120Hz, then the monitor needs to have a specific 120Hz setting...yours doesn't appear to from what I can tell.

As I said, I think what I have written is accurate but I am not sure so will need someone else's opinion/clarification/correction

Edit: The quickest way to determine what settings it has is to plug it into a PC.....In the "Display" area of Windows Settings, it will give you a choice of refresh rates to choose from (assuming there's more than one)...that dropdown will list what you can connect to..if it says "120Hz" then I am probably wrong.

Why is my monitor not letting me select 1440p and 120hz at the same time?

    from the xbox insiders reddit:

    "

Xbox One Insiders - 120Hz FAQ

Q: I don’t see the dropdown under the Video Output settings that allows me to select 120Hz refresh rate.

A: The Refresh setting will only appear if your console and display support 120Hz over HDMI. 120Hz is only supported on Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles, and while using a TV or monitor that supports 120Hz over HDMI. While some monitors support 120Hz over
DisplayPort, they may not support it over HDMI.

Please note that there is a bug in the 430 build that 120hz does not show if you meet these conditions but have the color depth set to anything BUT 8-bit. The new build today to Alpha (504 build) fixes this bug."
