Xbox One S 1080p Display Issue

    Hello Everyone,

    First off, i have 2 x Xbox One S's

My first Xbox One S works with zero issues and runs at 1080p on my TV perfectly.

I Recently purchased a second Xbox One S because split screen multiplayer sucks but i have ran into a problem, first of all i could not get the new xbox to display on my TV until i held down the eject and power button to reset the resolution, i changed the
input from auto to hdmi so i could manually set the resolution to 1080p, everytime i set it to 1080p i would get a no input message and it would reset back to 720p

i know its not my TV or cables as my first xbox one s runs perfectly fine in 1080p, its just the new Xbox One S that has issues

    Any Ideas?

    :)

Sorry to hear it. Was this console new or used? If it's a used/refurbished console then I would recommend returning it for an exchange.

If the console is new then I would recommend trying a new factory reset to see if things work for you after that.

    Xbox One S 4K

Xbox One S is not really a 4K console,

    4K Media Content - Yes

You can play 4K Blu-ray DVD's or Streaming services like Netflix in 4K just fine if your paying the the 4K subscription options,

    4K Gaming Content - No

As for games, it only plays games at 1080p but it is upscaled to 4K, other wise a 1080p image without upscaling to 4K, will look much worst on a 4K screen than what it would do, if it was only displayed on a 1080p screen,

A 1080p image upscaled on a 4K screen does look a little better than a 1080p image on a 1080p screen, but it still a 1080p image made to fit a 4K resolution screen, which is what the Xbox One S does

    Xbox One X is a 4K console,

    4K Media - Yes

    4K Gaming - Yes

The issues is not the TV, it's the Xbox One S not being an Xbox One X.

Xbox Series X|S and lower resolutions

The Xbox Series S/X only has a HDMI socket for display, so it will only support that display option. As for 720p or 1080p, it should support 1080p, but 720p is anyone's guess, as Microsoft haven't stated if it supports 720p or not.

xbox one s can't support FHD / QHD HDR

Xbox one s only supports HDR game in UHD 4K2K 60Hz Timing.

As a result, there is a number of of FHD / QHD displays that suppot HDR can't turn on HDR in Xbox one s.

It should also support FUD / QHD HDR for better compatibility.

Suggest xbox developer to consider to support gaming HDR with 1080p @50/60 hz and 1440p @50/50 hz timings.
Additionally, lots of VESA DPM DisplayHDR Displays are 1080P.
