Xbox One runs very hot keeps locking up

My Xbox One gets hot enough to burn regardless if I play for an hour or play all day.

Also, randomly the Xbox will stop responding and lock up. Trying to power down does nothing and I end up having to pull the power cord to get the thing to respond. Anyone know why it does this and/or a way to fix it? This happens often regardless of whether
or not I'm playing a game or trying to browse through the store. I do not subscribe to the Live features or Multiplayer stuff.

Where is your console placed? Have you left space around it for air flow. Key areas to leave plenty of space are on top and behind the hardware.

Also, when it starts warming up, do you hear the fans at all? After running your console for a short while, put your hand on top of the console and see if you feel a slight vibration of the fans spinning.

 

I don't have a lot of room for where the xbox is; it is in front of the tv on a small table (apartment living, yay!). I did move the xbox earlier so that it is catty-corner and has more room to 'breath'. I do feel the vibration of the fans. I played another
game for a little while (Dance Central Spotlight) and it hasn't gotten as hot as it does when I play "Dragon Age Inquisition". Perhaps it is the game choice, or moving it just that little bit helped. I'll know more later when I try to play DAI again.

 

How long have you had your Xbox One? Has you Xbox One ever frozen in the pass? Because sometimes that could be a issue.

 

I received the xbox one in late November 2014. Haven't had it all that long. This is the first time I've had any problems with it locking up and not responding. I am beginning to think it is something to do with DA:I and/or online content. It has not
wanted to do a save game today in DA:I, and when trying to view the store it stops responding. I played another game with no problems. No idea why it is doing this. I have done a hard reboot of both the xbox and our router/internet box.

 

My Xbox runs pretty hot as well, so that is normal I think, since mine is very well ventilated. The freezing issue must have to do with your online content as you said. If the console was overheating, you would get a message when your console powers back
on.

 

Yeah not getting any messages that it is over heating. THis morning hubby and I played a dance game together with no problems. Then he watched a movie via X-box video. At the end of the movie the whole system locked up and stopped responding. I unplugged
everything, waited an hour and plugged it all back up. It took two tries to get passed the green screen Then tried playing DA:I and it is locking up again. It did give a message this time that there was a problem with local saved games, to go to Settings>system
and delete them. I tried to go to Settings, got the black screen with gear and the xb stopped responding again lights went dull as if it had gone to sleep.

 

Wanted to pop in and update this thread. I spent several hours in chat with support yesterday. They ended up having me attempt to do a factory reset on the console; which did not work. The entire system stopped responding - so my hubby returned it today
in exchange for a new unit (it was only a couple weeks out the box).

The new box runs MUCH cooler than the other one, no longer hot enough to burn and is a normal warm breeze. So far, no lag and no freezing - no problems with save games either.

 

I'm not sure what happened to my other message, lol. I wanted to update this thread. I spent several hours in chat with support yesterday. Final solution was to attempt a factory reset; which did not work. The entire system stopped responding and wouldn't
start up again. Since it was only a couple of weeks out of the box my husband returned it today for a new system.

The new system runs much cooler than the old one; not hot enough to burn, and is a normal warm expected from this type of console. So far, no lag and no freezing.
