I am certain Microsoft wipes the information from the hard drive or destroy the drive to protect your personal information. For future reference, if you know you are receiving a new console factory reset the one you are sending just to be sure.

I would definitely consider replacing the model. The price you listed is a little better than half the cost of a new one here in Canada.

Not only will you get a better functioning console but you'll have a one year warranty with it as well. If you get one with a hard drive be sure to get an official Xbox transfer cable to transfer your content from the old drive to the new drive (If you
are currently using an S or E console then you don't need the cable because the drive is compatible - if you are using an FAT console then the cable is required to transfer).

Be sure to only use an official transfer cable as 3rd party cables have been known to ruin both hard drives and repairs are not supported for 3rd party issues.

That's the price to replace it or the part inside that's broken. If it's a phat console, it will probably be replaced with a refurb console, if the part cannot be fixed...which is pretty much everything inside the console.
