Xbox One releases in Japan, being reported as dismal

To add what I said before ...

I'd still be very surprised if in a year from now we hear the XB1 has done even "average" in Japan.

Like has been mentioned in this thread, over in Japan they seem more interested in mobile gaming rather than consoles these days, even the PS4 hasn't done as well as expected so if that is not selling as much as expected, I can't see any hope for the Xbox
    One lol.

Oh no it's doing bad in Japan!! Was this a surprise? Isn't Nintendo king there? They are all about portable. 3ds and vita do well there.

  3. "Maybe everybody in Japan is more into pre orders than queing up like us dumb westerners Xbox One releases in Japan, being reported as dismal :)"

Not really. Usually there are lines for these things. That is the reason they planned for it. And although they may not have expected sales to be huge you can tell they expected a decent turnout. You would have thought there would be a decent number
of gamers over there who would have wanted one.

We should start seeing deals a lot more often on the One. These smaller markets will not make a large difference. At least if you go by the WiiU, PS4, and previous console sales in these territories. And MS wants to keep sales up. They started off great
but have tailed off a decent amount. MS will do something to keep pace.

I would say to give a "base" sales you need to look at what was done last time in Japan.

While other regions such as the United States or Europe enjoyed successful launches, sales in Japan have been very slow. In fact, only 103,990 units had been sold by the end of April 2, 2006.[32][33]

I am not smart by anyone standards but history will be close to the same if not worse. I would put my money, in 2014, that if they did half that ( 103,990) its a good thing.

Anything more....your just typing to get some practice in.

    Keep it redneck,

  5. I haven't read a success article anywhere, On the other hand, this was expected. would a Japanese console with only Japanese games sell well on launch day in the U.S? I think western games are way too easy for an international success in 2014. Maybe FF14
Would have been a good launch game for NTSC/J?? MS just refused to cross platform

I would say wait for sales figures before we dismiss the Xbox Ones release in Japan as a failure. I don't think it's going to do amazing sales wise, but I think it'll do better than the pictures suggest.

Even if they only sell 1 quarter of the amount then sony sold which is what most retailers are estimating - times that by 30 - assuming they sell poor in all countries by 1 to 4 which is twice as bad add they are currently doing. We still catch up with
3 million units sold. Another 3 months after that we will be ahead.

Unlike the US and Europe. Residents of Japan are currently more concerned by whats going on with their nations status, and thus have neither the time, patience, nor the inclination to simply set around the tube playing games, or running apps.

Their is some good news for the US though.

" Microsoft announced on Thursday a special promotion: If you buy an Xbox One between Sept. 7 and 13, you can get any game you want. For free. That includes the highly anticipated "Destiny," which comes out on Sept. 9. "

  10. Still the same old negativity in this place. Whatever, at this point I just chuckle. It's pretty much like asking what is more popular in China, Pringles or Chicken Dumplings. One is always going to have the edge because it's more locally appreciated by
    the residents.

  11. That's not meant to be a rant or personal attack at Mgzin by the way, more a general annoyance that all these great games are coming out this week, or will be accessible for a short while, and instead of threads full of anticipation the first thing I see
is a sales report lol And a negative one at that, with the word 'dismal' in the title.

Good man, Doc! I'm still enjoying my baby as well. Had a thriller on Battlefield last night, everything clicked and it was a true next gen experience.

    Oh dear.

    No games to play.

    No resolution advantage anymore.

And outselling the competition on "Amazon.jp".

It it any wonder so many budget gamers nearly fell over themselves to post a link to an empty electronics shop in an Osaka suburb.

Well it looks like Sony's Playstation 4 has 1 true advantage over the XBox ONE.

Having a Playstation 4 isn't really gonna take up too much of your time.
