    Xbox One Randomly Powering On When Not Touched...


    For the last few weeks I'll be watching tv or not even in the room and all of a sudden the Xbox turns on... never touched the power and I don't have a kinect so it isn't turning on based on a phrase or etc.

    Really want to know what on earth this going on.

    Xbox One Randomly Powering Off

    Everything went fine with the setup, but within an hour the One just randomly shut itself off in the middle of action. At first I thought it was weird, disregarded it, and turned the console back on without issue. But then later, it did the same thing. Both
    of these times I don't remember what I was doing. Again, after the second time I powered it on again without issue.

    Then the third shut down came. I was in the middle of a game of KI and the first thing I noticed was that the game started lagging terribly. After about 10 seconds of lag, another shut down.

    What could be the cause of this? At first I thought maybe it was a heating issue, but the One was only slightly warm to the touch. Then I thought it might be a power issue, but why would a power issue cause lag before it shut down?

    Any way to diagnose this?

    Sorry to hear about the issue. Let's start with the steps below to see if it can help:

    • Press and hold the power button on your Xbox One console until it fully powers down.
    • Remove power from the back and let it sit for 5 minutes.
    • Plug everything and power back on.

    If the issue continues after those steps, I would next recommend a
    Factory Restore on your Xbox One     console by selecting 'Reset and keep my games & apps'.

    I did the power button and power block suggestion and it still does it.

    I do not want to do a factory reset of my Xbox One, the last time I did that and asked it to keep games and apps it didn't do that either.

    Currently I'm just unplugging it whenever I don't want to use it, which is incredibly annoying, but better than it just running whenever it feels like it.

    my xbox 360 turns on and off by itself randomly

    I tried a new outlet in a different room. no substantial changes.

    and standing it upright from flat seemed to help a little bit with how often it would power on by itself. but now it chirps the two different R2D2 sounds randomly and when it does that the two touch sensors for the disk tray and power button don't respond
    when i touch them.

    i can make it power off with the controller still and open the disk tray via the menu.

    it just seems like its going to be a persistent issue. I'm going to try and see if there's anything Xbox will do for me at this point as it looks like it may be a defect among the other star wars editions.

    A common reason for this is due to the Xbox being plugged into a surge protector or power strip.
    Microsoft recommends you connect the Xbox directly to the wall outlet for power, as the console's power supply already has its own surge protection built in. Putting another surge protector behind it can cause electrical issues.
