Xbox One randomly flicks my TV source to HDMI, then back when in 'instant on' mode.

This is a weird one. I have a single HDMI cable (v1.4 - 5m long) going from the Xbox One to my tv (Panasonic Plasma V10),
no other sources go into the box i.e its just outputting the picture to my TV's HDMI1 source when its on.

The problem i am having is this... when the Xbox is in standby using 'instant on mode', every so often while i am viewing any other source on my TV i.e. Freesat source (satellite aerial goes straight into TV) the TV source randomly changes to HDMI1 (Xbox source)
and back after a few seconds for no apparent reason.

It's totally random and i don't know why its happening and it happens while viewing any sources on my TV.

When the Xbone is completely off i.e 'energy saving mode' it
doesn't happen obviously, but i'd like to use 'instant on' if possible as it resumes to the dashboard quicker than a full power on cycle and also automatically downloads updates.

    Anyone experienced this? Any ideas?

    :)

  2. Screen is flickering

    Hello,

    When i have my xbox turned on, my tv keeps flickering into a black screen, it happens reguarly and is very frustrating, for example;

I will be playing a game and every few seconds the screen will flicker into a black screen and then back to normal, it does it randomly and reguarly.

The TV is a 32" Toshiba Regza, i am using a HDMI cable- i have never had any problems with it until now, its just started to happen recently.

    Any help?

    HDMI Suddenly stopped working.

    Thanks for the reply,

Not sure I know what you mean. I only have one HDMI channel, and I've moved off that, to the TV source and YPbPr Source. Then gone back and tried the HDMI Source with no luck.

I've also tried switching off the TV and Xbox and leaving them unplugged for 10 mins or so. Then trying again with no luck.

I don't think the xbox was in use when the HDMI Cable was unplugged.

Xbox One randomly flicks my TV source to HDMI, then back when in 'instant on' mode.

In the preferences there are options about what kind of signals send to TV for example when Xbox turns on or off.

Have you checked what you have there (i think it is in the TV/AV category, but i can't check right now)?

If you have something set there, maybe try to disable all those signals and see if it helps.

This is purely guessing, but i was thinking that it might be sending those signals for some reason even though it shouldn't.

No, at least for me it works with just Xbox One connected to TV.

I have set it to send the signal to turn TV on and it does that. No flicking problem for me though.

Ah ok cheers, yeah ive just one HDMI from the Xbox for picture to the tv (sound is through SPDIF to an AV receiver as its an older Pioneer with no HDMI).

Just googling about with your suggestion and there's a whole 'Configure TV/AV reciever' part of the setup i must've completely bypassed where you can select tv make/model etc! Never seen that menu before, i just plugged and played. Embarassing! Xbox One randomly flicks my TV source to HDMI, then back when in 'instant on' mode. :(

I take it you've been through this setup MTM1977.

Yes, that is what i was talking about Xbox One randomly flicks my TV source to HDMI, then back when in 'instant on' mode. :)

For me it automatically recognized the TV model (Samsung LCD) and i just selected the options i wanted to have enabled.

Heh, cheers! Cant believe i missed that. Must've selected cancel when it popped up during initial setup!

Without knowing what model my tv is it might be trying to initiate the HDMI handshake so it can switch sources and failing, hence switching it over and back...

That's my 'manly technology credentials' revoked right there. Xbox One randomly flicks my TV source to HDMI, then back when in 'instant on' mode. :(

Will go through it tonight and see if it fixes the issue.

    Thanks again.

I don't think that it comes up in the initial setup. I found it when i was going through the different settings to see what is there Xbox One randomly flicks my TV source to HDMI, then back when in 'instant on' mode. :)

I don't know if that will solve your problem, but it is worth a try at least.

Ok, so properly setting up my tv through my xbox one has done nothing to fix my problem.

While watching my normal tv with the Xbox in 'Instant-on' standby mode the tv changes source to HDMI1 (which the Xbox is plugged into) for a spilt second then reverts back to the tv source randomly.

    Anyone else have this problem?

Sorry to hear it didn't help.

Unfortunately that is all i can think off at the moment.

Have you tried contacting support? Maybe they have some ideas about this.

Well cheers any, atleast i can eliminate the setup as a factor. I'm going to try a different HDMI on the off chance it might be that.

Not tried support yet. I thought they might check these forums periodically anyway?

I assume they check these also, but if you want information faster, you might try the support chat. That has worked well for me at least. It would at least give you some indication whether this kind of issues have been handled earlier.

And there is always the chance that your Xbox One might have some flaw, which causes this behavior, because it shouldn't be doing that.

Right, i think i've worked this out finally so i thought i'd post in here to help anyone else with a similar albeit random problem.

The source switching that occurs when my Xbox One in standby is connected to my Panasonic Plasma TV (V10) only happens when the Xbox is connected via HDMI1. I think this is because equipment connected to HDMI1 is allowed to change the source when a signal
is detected when using this port on the TV. Its called EC Mode or External Control mode and means when a signal from the Xbox is detected it auto switches the source to HDMI1.

While in standby the Xbox must still send a signal out periodically which makes the TV think its on and switch source.

Plugging the Xbox into any other HDMI port on the TV stops this behaviour.

While the problem is fixed for me i'd still the like someone technical from Microsoft to explain why the Xbox One still appears to send out a display signal via HDMI randomly when in 'Instant On' standby mode? Surely it shouldn't do this i can cause problems
when connected to some AV equipment.

Is there someone from Microsoft on this forum that i can speak too?

    Many thanks,

    Buz.
