  1. Xbox One question.

I'm pretty sure this question has been asked but i cant seem to find the thread that contains it.

is there or will there ever be a way to stop my Xbox One from constantly downloading a disc game i just bought? its getting very annoying to have no memory left for games that i bought using points. is there a way or a setting and if not will there ever
be an update nullifying it making it where we don't have to download games that we have the disc for?

    :)

    Xbox One question.

All games, including disc based, must be installed to the console. However, you can purchase an external hard drive for extra storage space for your games. You can use up to 2 USB 3.0 drives ranging in size from 256GB to 16TB in size.

For example, I have a USB 3.0 1TB drive attached to my console (total storage space 1.5TB) with a lot of games installed. I still have well of 800GB of space left for items.

If you have a disc, the only thing it should be downloading is the updates as everything is installed from the disc. But even if you have a disc, you need to to a full install to play the game. The games on the Xbox One (or PS4 for that matter) are not played
of the disc as they were on past consoles. All the disc does is act as an installation media and ownership verification. The games are played from the hard drive, not the BluRay disc.

If you thought by buying the disc version of a game was going to save you disc space, I regret to tell you that you were mistaken or misinformed. Both digital and disc versions take up the same disc space.

  6. If they were gonna force us to do this then why didn't they give us a TB Hard Drive to work with instead of this 500 GB that you can only use 350 GBs of because of all the other things.

Because 500GB seems to be the console standard (PS4 has one, too) and also, including a hard drive of twice the size would likely increase the cost of the console to around $100 more.

  8. Xbox One question.

that sucks. they need to come out with a system update that makes it where I'm not forced to download games that i already have on a Disc. you know like the 360 does.

I think we might have a difference in terminology - you're not actually downloading the game that you have on disc, you're installing it. This is required on the Xbox One, and the way the system works does not allow the game to play directly from the disc
without being installed. The 360 just works completely differently than the One (although, even the 360 had some later games coming out where doing a hard-drive install was an option, to get increased graphics performance, etc.)

What you do end up downloading, though, are any patches associated with the game. Many games have patches that download on day one, which install in conjunction with the disc-based install. But, rest assured if you have the disc, you are not also forced
to download the full game online, it's just installing from the disc itself.

Hope this helps - not sure if that's what you meant!

There is a reason why the games run from the hard drive on current gen consoles (PS4 & Xbox One), and it is mainly due to the BluRay drive. While the BluRay disc can hold a lot more space than a CD or DVD, it also has a lot slower read time than those formats
because of that. If you were able to run the game purely off the BluRay disc, you would see longer loading times and a significant drop in performance in your game when accessing the disc.

  11. jaymo1978. I meant installing. I'm tired of installing the disc when the 360 you could just choose to install it or not and the game will just play cause it will read off of the disc

Then they should of made the memory standard a TB not 500 GB where you can only use 350 of it

Well I've now got both consoles, The only real difference would be the exclusives tbh. I know they aren't cheap to buy but I couldn't decide on just one. Now Op, If you like XB then logically buy the xb1.

There are no real issues apart from a shoddy Friends and Achievements list, everything else is bang on. There won't be a price drop in a year, not until at least end of 2015, so go ahead and buy it. Feel free to add me as a friend.

MAKE SURE TO BUY FORZA AND DR3 THOUGH!!!

I'll dig up my reviews, give me a second.

I think the best advice anyone could give you is base your decision on games. The Xbox One may not be as powerful as the PS4, but I don't think it's anything to scream and shout about - of course the fanboys would think different.
I don't think Microsoft will do anything with the Xbox brand (not anytime soon anyway) the console has not been out for long and it's doing well so far.
