XBOX ONE Question when off

Turned my console off with the game disc in and now and again it sounds like its trying to read it lol

First time i have ever used a disc

Just ordered one of these, just a couple of questions...

Is it always on? So it's ready to use when you pick it up? and does the xbox button in the middle turn the console on/off?

 

Fan spins before Powering off the Xbox

I have a question regarding turning off the Xbox one in energy save mode. When I turn off the console, the fan turns on and spins up for a half second right before the xbox powers off. Is this normal?

 

the console will always read the drive to see if there is any disc inside when it first starts up. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about.

 

funny that you bring that up, last night i was watching Netflix, and the turned off the console(with instant on enabled), and a few minutes later i heard the drive spin up and sounded like it was reading the disc, at first i thought it was my NAS spinning
up, but it was my X1, wonder if it was just checking for game updates or something, i still have The Evil Within in the drive.

 

Yup, when it boots up it will check to see if there is a disc in the drive. Also, it's not really a good idea to leave discs in the drive. You should always take the discs out when you are finished with it. Leaving the disc in could cause the drive to constantly
read and cause wear and tear on the drive.

 

Pretty sure the X1 will not update games automatically if game was disc install, UNLESS the disc in still in the drive.

Hence I'd have to disagree with Maximum - surely it's better to leave disc in so that game updates will happen even when X1 is on stand-by.

 

No, it will not. Games updates for disc based games need to have the disc in the drive in order to update. It's still not a good idea leaving it in the drive though.

 

I have never removed a disc from either my 360 my One or my car CD player or my blu ray player, leaving discs in consoles does absolutely no harm whatsover. Its an old wives tale. Im pretty sure the disc doesnt need to be in to update, DR3 updated for
me without the game being in the drive as have numerous other games, the game is already installed on the console isnt it? Although I have noticed Destiny hasnt updated without the disc in the drive.

 

My Thief wouldn't update without the disc being in - either way I'm with Genchy, leave the disc in. If the X1 is spinning it then it's for a reason (checking before update?). My wife isn't old, but even when she is I still won't believe her tales!

 

^ lol! Don't trust em! Maybe it depends on the the game, I know I was pleasantly surprised when I put DR3 in after a while that I didn't have the huge 13gb update, but then I know Sniper 3 didn't update automatically as I remember being peeved it didn't
as I was expecting it to. Pretty sure a couple of my other games have background installed updates as well. Something to keep an eye on!

 

Downloaded the crew beta the other day and left my xbox on instant on mode while, I went to work. All of my games that required an update, had updated, including battlefield, which, I hadn't updated since installing it in march.

 

When I got Xbox 1, I noticed this too. It's like is someone spying on you or what is Microsoft's interpretation of "What would you like to turn off? Console Off. Controller Off".

Xbox 1 does do silent/background Updates for system and games. I think there's a Dashboard function to turn it off but don't spend a lot of time on it to know.

If you want to really turn it off, cut power to it. Unless you're paranoid they put a secret internal battery inside of it.... just kidding. M is a reputable company they have high standards including protecting your privacy. And certain countries including
Australia/NZ have strict privacy laws anyways if you're lucky to live in one of those countries which I do.

I never leave my game disc or movie disc in the game console / player because all it takes is you forgetting that it is there and you move that game console / player then it is goodbye laser eye reading thing.
