Xbox One PSU Noise

My Xbox One Power Supply Unit is making a loud high pitched noise even when my console is turned off and in Instant On mode. It is not the normal whirring sound from the fan that is expected when the system is on.

PSU Noise

my xbox one is 2 month's old and i'm having a blast with it, the only thing that bothers me is that the PSU is making quite some noise when in "instant on" mode it's a feature i would love to use, but i can't because of the noise. i would love to get a replacement
PSU but i read a lot of stories that you have to get lucky to get a quiet one.

what's the best way to get a quiet PSU?

Mine is doing the same thing. This issue has been ongoing since 2013... You'd think a fortune 50 company would be able to release a patch to change this or at least respond to consumers regarding the issue and what they plan to do about it. Unfortunately,
this continues to persist and be ignored. I'll make sure that a review makes it onto amazon to ensure that others are aware of the issues ongoing with this product before christmas this year.

I've had 4 PSUs so far: -

1 - Made a constant ticking noise that was audible at all times.

2 - Same as 1.

3 - No ticking, but made a loud buzzing noise constantly that was audible at all times.

4 - Makes a quiet hum that is not audible over ambient noise in a quiet room.

I consider 4 to be normal as you'll never get a truly silent PSU as there's a fan that runs 24/7 unless you use the power saving mode. There is certainly a lot of variance with these PSUs though and obviously placement, size of room, which room the Xbox
One is in etc. will all make a difference to people's perception of the noise. Hopefully MS can tighten up on QC so that everyone gets a PSU that's like my 4th one.

On my first Xbox One (imported from Amazon.de) there was a slight low piched hum/"smooth" fan noise Notisable but not directly anoying in a quiet room (Instant On mode)... Had been that way since I got it. but I could not hear it With the tv/surround system
on.. As I had a pre-order for the Scandinavian day one I sold it to a cousin of mine when my pre-order arrived..

On my Scandinavian/Norwegian Day one console I can't hear anything from the from the PSU even when the room is completely quiet.. the first Xbox one is still going strong at my cousins house so from my experience there can be slight diffrences in the noise
Levels of xbox one PSUs... but as said the noise from my first XB Ones psu was smooth in nature and I could not hear any clicking..

Note If the PSU is making excessive noise, you might have a power strip or surge protector that is overloaded. Plug your PSU directly into a wall outlet and see if the problem persists.

Just because some noise is "normal" does not mean that all types of noise and all levels of noise are "normal". My Xbox One PSU is louder than my Xbox One console itself, and louder than my similarly-sized and also fan-assisted 360 S PSU.

I also have what I consider to be a "noisy" Xbox One PSU.

I know that it is fan-assisted and that some noise is "normal", but mine is not what I consider normal.

The PSU for my Xbox One is louder than the Xbox One console itself, plus is also louder than the PSU for my Xbox 360 S (a fan-assisted PSU of the same size, which unlike the one for my Xbox One is very quiet and needs to be next to my ear for me to hear
anything).

It's not very noticeable when the TV/amp volume is high, but if I'm at a quiet part in a game/video/app or if the Xbox One is simply sitting at the Home/dash then it is quite annoying.

In fact, the noise is so annoying that I have disabled "Instant On" because I don't want to hear this noise 24/7... I'm also unsure of whether it would be a good idea to use "Instant On", because to me the sound is as if the fan is a bit "off" (as in not
right) and I don't know if I'd want to trust the thing to be running all the time when I'm out or asleep.

I don't want to have to return the whole console to Amazon UK, as the only thing I consider to be a problem is the PSU.

I haven't tried Xbox Support yet (other than the Twitter account, which said to phone support, and said their own PSU was very quiet), but may give them a phone call tomorrow.

I don't want to have to return my current PSU to wherever Microsoft's service centre is for the UK & Europe, and then wait for a replacement to be sent out once they have received mine, as it would mean being unable to play my brand new Xbox One for a couple
of weeks, which would really suck and be totally unacceptable (and also mean I'd miss the rest of the double XP week for BF4 and miss the Forza discount period).

Ideally I'd like to have a PSU sent to me in advance, like they do with replacement consoles...
