Xbox one powers on but only shows a black blank screen.

Sometimes my xbox one won't respond to "Xbox on" so I manually power it on. When it powers up, it only gives me a black screen. This means that some signal is getting through because if it didn't, my tv would give me a message of "no signal".

What I end up having to do is power cycle the xbox until it eventually (third or fourth attempt) presents my dashboard.

This has happened 4 times.

The first time it happened I unplugged the power brick and it booted up with no problems. It even fixed the kinect's hearing problem that it began to develop.

The second time I put it back onto standby mode and when I came back later in the day, it powered up like normal.

The third time I tried switching tv inputs and power cycling my tv. It eventually came up but I know that it isn't a problem with my tv.

This last and most recent time I tried power cycling the xbox one and switching the HDMI connection to another port. It eventually came up after a few attempts.

That last one was the most frustrating.

I have searched the forums and found others that have had a similar problem but the forum was last posted in February. I figured I should start a new post because the problem has not been resolved.

The suggestions that the earlier thread had are basically what I did. However, I did learn from the previous thread that to completely power down the xbox one without unplugging the power brick you have to hold the power button for 10-15 seconds.

Mine did work at the start was even able to update. it never restarted itself after update and now i just get blank screen. dont even get green screen

Hey there, juicy! This thread is pretty old, and the OP might have already fixed their issue. I appreciate your enthusiasm to help others out! You should pop into some more recent threads and drop your knowledge on them there. Enjoy posting!

 

When booting from "cold". It takes between 60 and 90 seconds for the xbox one to power up. I'd also try a different HDMI cable as there could be a loose cable/connection in there somewhere. Ultimately it could be an issue with a bad solder or something in
the Xbox it self.

I've had the same kind of issues with other hardware and it turned out mostly to be a bad HDMI cable, or an old HDMI cable. That's where I'd start and if it doesn't solve the issue, send in your xbox one for repair.

 

I keep my Xbox on standby mode so I guess I should say when it "wakes up" instead of "powers on".

I'm using the cable that came with the box, but I will try another HDMI cable and see if that helps.

I've had a similar issue with an old DVD player that wouldn't connect to the tv as well. The way I got around it was to make sure I was on the right input before turning on the player. But that was an inexpensive DVD player. The xbox one shouldn't have an
issue like this.

I hope I don't have to send it in.
