Xbox One powering off when launching games

My Xbox One is powering off every time I try to launch a game. It runs apps fine, downloads things fine, and installed games fine. But as soon as I try to launch a game, it will power off within 3 seconds. I have tried restarting my Xbox, moving outlets,
clearing persistent storage and nothing works. My light on the power supply is orange when off and green when on. The power light on the front of the Xbox is white. My power supply is making strange noises. Could my power supply have went bad?

Power On / Power Off IR Commands

This is a feature request for the Xbox One team.

Steps to Reproduce:

Setup the Xbox One to send Power commands to TV, Receiver, and Cable Box (when powering on and powering off the console).

Either Power On or Power Off the console.

Expected Results:

The Xbox One sends a discrete Power On or Power Off (depending on whether powering on or powering off the console) IR command for each device.

This ensures that if the devices are powered off, the Xbox One will not turn the devices on while powering off (or vice versa).

Actual Results:

The Xbox One sends a single power toggle command for both powering on and powering off to each of the devices. This is sent even if the devices support discrete power on and power off commands.

This results in unexpected behavior. For instance, when a universal remote such a Logitech Harmony turns all devices off, and the Xbox One will send a toggle power command to each device, immediately turning the devices back on just after they were turned
off. This occurs in an opposite manner when turning each device on and then the Xbox One (the xbox will send power toggle commands and turn all the devices off just after they were turned on).

Sorry you're having issues with your Xbox powering off. If your power supply is making a strange noise, and is not staying powered on, then yes that could very well be the issue. Try blowing some air into the power supply to see if that fixes the noise
issue, or if it fixes your issue over all playing games. If it does not, and the power supply still makes noise, you likely need a new power supply anyways, so I would start there with fixing this issue. You can request a new power supply by going to the link
below. Please note that if the power supply is broken and you're out of your warranty you may be charged to purchase another one. They're pretty cheap around $50.00,

Lestat's estimate seems pretty close to me. If you take the newest and most power efficient revision of the 360, when browsing the dashboard it uses about the same power as the Xbox One and when gaming, the Xbox One uses just over 20% more power, which isn't
far off from what he said.

If you have an old 360 - one of the launch models - that will use about twice the electricity of an Xbox One.

Thanks for coming to the forums. We understand your console powers off when launching these apps. Is this the only time it happens? We recommend first try a

power cycle of the console and then re-launch one of the apps when it is back on. If that doesn't work try uninstalling the apps and re-install them.

Hi Chutowee,

Sorry to hear about your issues launching Metro on your Xbox One.

Have you tried a power cycle on the console? If not please press and hold the consoles power button for 10 seconds, the device should power off.

Once the Xbox has powered off, power the device back on and try launching Metro again.

Hey there JaguarShart.

Since this began have you also tried a full power cycle on your Xbox One? To power cycle your console hold down the power button for 8-10 seconds until the Xbox One shuts off. After the console is off, wait 30 seconds and power it back on.

Let us know if that helps clear up the trouble with launching the game.
