    Xbox One powering off immediately on startup


    My Xbox One immediately shuts off after startup a second later. My ext hard drive is still lit up, power cable is ventilated and the console is not overheated since i dont use it often. The power brick light flickers from orange to white when i try to start it up, then just cuts out and goes back to orange. My hardware should be completely fine considering just 2 days ago I played on it completely fine for a couple of hours, although for a few years it would turn itself on while i wasnt paying attention. The xbox does not run hot. As I'm writing this, I just perfomed a hard reset removing all cables and waiting 5 minutes and the powerbrick immediately started trying to power itself on as soon as i plugged it back in and it began cutting out and retrying to power itself on - before i even plugged it into the xbox. The issue is not in my houses electrics nor is it in the plug bar because like I said, i was just playing 2 days ago. I'm assuming I need a new power pack but I'm not going to bother since microsoft made them to break (which is evident due to the fact that my console and power pack are placed optimally)

    I have tried Power Cycling, resetting the power brick etc. It keeps a solid orange light until i plug it into the console at which point it sounds like the power brick turns on, light goes white, sounds like it turns off, then goes orange again - all before ive even tried to turn the console on. I've scoured forums looking for fixes but all of the indicators are so contradictory, some say the orange light is bad, some say its fine and is just power saving mode

    It would most likely if you have instant-on enabled with keep my console/games/apps up to date and when xbox is off turn off my storage unchecked...

    Have you set the Xbox One to control the power toggle of your TV? If so, it will send a signal to your TV to toggle the power state of the TV. Basically, if your TV is On before turning on your Xbox One then the signal sent to the TV will turn it off. If
    it is Off before turning on your Xbox One, then it will turn On the TV.

    Check the settings to see if this is the case. It should be under Settings -> Power & startup -> Power mode & startup -> TV & A/V power options

    Thanks for posting, to have the external hard drive turn off after you power off the console follow these steps:

    1. Enter the settings for your Xbox One
    2. Select Power & Startup
    3. Select Power mode & startup
    4. Check When Xbox is off, turn off storage

    Onyx is 100% correct. The Xbox One power supply actually has a built-in surge protector, so plugging it into another power strip basically puts two layers of surge protection, which chokes off the necessary power at startup - the console actually draws more
    power during startup routines than when it's just running normally.

    Incidentally, this was actually one of the MAIN causes of the RRoD on the old 360s, components would fail because they didn't have enough power on startup. :)
