    XBox One Power Brick Rubbing Fan Noise


    For a couple of years the fan in my power brick has been making a rubbing noise. After some research, I found that it's probably dust causing this noise. So I decided to open it up and clean it, and sure enough there was lots of dust inside the fan. However,
    after cleaning it, I plugged it back in but discovered that the noise hasn't changed at all.

    It's only really noticeable when turning on and off, but not noticeable from a distance while running. The fan still works, so is it anything to worry about?

    Hey there!

    Any unnatural fan noises are something to be concerned about. The sound in the video is an odd one, it almost sounds like the fan is clipping something. If possible, with the Xbox powered off, rotate the fan with your finger and see if the blades catch on anything
    or if the clicking sound is coming from the center of the fan.

    If it's the latter, there's a chance something has worked it's way into the bearing casing/housing. I'd replace the fan/power brick if this turns out to be the problem.

    The reason your Power Brick is making a humming noise, is because inside of the power brick. Is a little fan, this fan keeps your Power Brick at the correct temperature. If your power brick gets hot, the fans RPM will increase and it will make a humming
    sound because your XBOX Power Brick Fan is cooling down your Power Brick. Nothing to worry about unless it's a roaring sound.

    All Xbox 360 power bricks have fans. They vary in the noise made. I would expect the Xbox One power bricks to be the same. I've had noisy fans in 360 power bricks and I've had silent fans. Luck of the draw.

    If it's really annoying, I would pack the whole thing up and exchange it at your retailer for another unit.

    Clicking noise?

    I have my Xbox One on Standby but I don't hear the clicking noise. I can only hear a high pitched fan noise coming form the power brick.

    Hi

    The power brick does contain a small fan if the console is set to instant on mode the power brick light will remain white when the console is switched off and you may hear a slight fan noise. Unless this noise is excessive then there is probably nothing
    to worry about.
