Title may sound stupid, but I started hearing this electrical/buzzing noise coming from my plugs (my power supply is near my plugs) so I assumed my plugs needed fixed so have ran an extension cable from outside my door for the past 2 days but recently figured
out that it was my Xbox One power brick. I got this Xbox Christmas 2014, so have had it for a significant amount of time and have had 0 problems with it until now. I've tried plugging it into a socket (power strip) and directly into the wall and it still makes
that noise. I cant really describe the noise, it starts as soon as I plug it into an on plug and starts quiet and gets louder. I'm scared to keep it on for more than 30 seconds as it sounds as if its about to blow up. Any tips to fix it or should I just buy
    a new one?

    :)

I have no idea what it is, but it sounds like a dying fan. I have no idea if there's a fan in there, but that's what it sounds like. Is this something covered under warranty? Do I really have to send in my whole console just to get this problem fixed?
    What is wrong here?

    Power brick making noise?

Yes, it's because you have the console set to Instant On mode. This keeps the console in a very-low power state (rather than being completely off), to enable it to do overnight updates so that you never have to see any update screens yourself. It will keep
the console OS updated, as well as downloading and installing all the latest title updates for games and apps.

If you wish to cease this behaviour, go to Settings then Power & Startup and switch the power mode to Energy Saving. This will make it behave more like your 360, but you will need to sit through update screens when those need to be downloaded and installed,
and like on 360 if you are online when an update is made mandatory you will be kicked offline to perform this update.

    Hey, Joe!

I am sorry to see any noise concerns with your power supply! For the most part, loud sounds coming from the console or power supply shouldn't affect their functionality, but can be concerning. If you feel that it needs to be replaced, I highly suggest doing
so. Your gut will tell you what's right.

Before you replace it, make sure the tiny little vents on the power supply aren't clogged with dust. That's a common reason why the fans get so loud in those. If it's clear, and you're still worried about the sound, definitely get a replacement.

Let me know if you have issues getting a replacement, or if you have any other concerns! I'm happy to help where I can. Xbox One Power Brick making electrical noises :)

The reason your Power Brick is making a humming noise, is because inside of the power brick. Is a little fan, this fan keeps your Power Brick at the correct temperature. If your power brick gets hot, the fans RPM will increase and it will make a humming
sound because your XBOX Power Brick Fan is cooling down your Power Brick. Nothing to worry about unless it's a roaring sound.
