XBOX one port forwarding and UPNP issue

    Hi All,

I know there is plenty on here regarding this but I have something strange going on I was hoping someone could explain please.

I have been having some issues connecting to xbox live and also latency issues so I decided to give my xbox one x a static IP and have forwarded all the recommended ports as stated in the link below. I have also reserved the IP address in my routers IP reservation
    list.

Xbox One Network Ports | Xbox Live Network Ports

What I don't understand is even though these port forwards are in place, the xbox IP is still opening ports 3074 TCP/UDP and 50185 UDP via UPNP. I have restarted the xbox and router several times but it still wants to create them and always with Teredo in
the description. From what I have read, Teredo is used to transition from IPv6 to IPv4 if IPv6 is not available. I know IPv6 is a new version of the internet protocol which allows for longer addressing I think. I noticed IPv6 is enabled on my router but not
sure if it is needed. I suspect the XBOX is IPv6 ready but not sure. Could this be why they are being added via UPNP?

The other thing is that before I added the port forwarding I was still seeing the 2 ports above being opened but nothing else which is why I am a bit confused as to why so many ports are recommended to be opened. I would have thought if the xbox needs a
port opened it would use UPNP to open it if UPNP is available. Does anyone know how this works?

The modem/router is a Telstra Smart Home Gateway which I am guessing are only used in Australia. Is it possible the router is causing this?

I would appreciate it if someone out there could shed some light on this for me please. Happy to provide more details if needed.

    Regards, Wazza.

    :)

STILL CAN'T PLAY and HAVE BAD NAT

Also UPnP can block Port Forwarding and DMZ from working

DMZ can block Port Forwarding and UPnP from working

Port Forwarding can block DMZ and UPnP from working

So use ONLY one of those & make sure the other two are disabled in your router.

Can't connect to live with new huawei router

Port Forwarding requires turning off UPnP, so the Xbox, which was using the UPnP, now has a problem.

So, we need to set up the Port Forwarding so it forwards the ports the Xbox needs and was getting via UPnP.

    Hello Wazza!

Was there ever a time when you were able to use the console and network normally? Are you connected wirelessly or have you tried a wired connection via ethernet cable? Please give us a few more supporting details to be able to best assist you.

Im pretty sure it started around the time i changed ISP and got the new modem I am using now. Before then I had it set to get an IP automatcally and never had port forwarding set up. Ive always had latency issues but never tried to do anything about it as
I thought it was my ISP as I had a high ping of 100ms to a local server in Australia. Changing ISP improved my ping to 20ms to the same server but then I started to get issues connected to xbox live so I set a static IP and forwarded the ports. My ping to
xbox live is around 115 but I dont know what it was before I changed ISP. I have always used ethernet cable for the connection.

I think since I have set a static IP I have not had as many issues but occassionally when I fire up the xbox it wont connect to xbox live and I need to check connection in the settings and it comes good.

Do I need to be setting a static IP and port forwarding or should I just set it automatically and let UPNP sort out the ports?

    Hello WazzaAngel,

Thank you for keeping us updated. We recommend setting up a static IP before completing the port forwarding process. This ensures that the IP address that the ports are open for remain open. If the IP address is dynamic, the changes to port forwarding will
work until the IP address of the console changes. We recommend to disable UPnP and DMZ before port forwarding is completed. Let us know the results!

Ok, so I've tried numerous things but what seems to work the best is as follows.

    1. Give the XBOX a static IP by reserving the address in the router ARP table. The IP must be within the DHCP range.
    2. Port forwarding the required ports to that IP.
    3. Set the XBOX to obtain an IP automatically. Setting a static IP works but not every time.

Even with this setup every now and then it won't connect to XBOX live and it still creates a UPNP connection to port 3074 TCP/UDP. Seems to be when my profile hasn't automatically signed in with my controller. Once I sign in it takes a minute or so to connect
which is when I think it is opening 3074.

What I don't understand is why the XBOX requests a UPNP connection to 3074 when I have this port added to the port forwarding table. Is it possible the port forwarding isn't working as expected on my router?

    Regards, Wazza.

    Hi Wazza!

Thanks so much for providing all that information regarding your issue. Since you stated that you had turned off UPNP and set up port forwarding and your connection is still creating a UPNP connection, then it is something that is coming from your
router's configuration automatically. Normally, when you disengage UPNP and set up port forwarding in the router settings (based on other routers), it remains disengaged. You may wish to contact the manufacturer of the router to see if there is a way around
    this issue.

    Hope this helps out!

Sorry but you may have misunderstood.

If I disable UPNP the xbox will not connect at all.

Even though I have port 3074 forwarded, UPNP must be enabled for the xbox to connect as it keeps creating a UPNP connection for 3074.

    Does this explain it better?

    Regards, Wazza.
