Xbox one plays sound but does not power on.

Given that your console's light isn't even turning on, but at least it plays the boot up chime, let's check if your Xbox One can at least enter the Troubleshooting mode. Follow these steps:

1. Unplug the network cable if you're using a wired network connection.

2. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

3. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

Note: The Xbox Series S and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition do not have Eject buttons. You can bring up the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter on this console by holding only the Pair button and then pressing the Xbox button. Disregard the Eject button for these two consoles.

4. Press and hold the Pair/Bind button and the Eject button, and then press the Xbox button on the console.

5. Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.

6. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.

If you see the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter, let us know! In the case that you are able to see something on screen, try to select Continue. If that doesn't work and you just get a black screen, redo the steps that I've sent and then select Reset this Xbox, and then Reset and keep my games & apps. Check if your console correctly afterwards.

It's possible the RCA converter is not able to properly convert the HDMI data to RCA compatible data as mentioned previously there could be discrepancies with the frequencies causing a bad sound output. The Xbox One is engineered to play sound through HDMI
and will have issues with playing sound through an RCA converter.

I suggest plugging the Xbox directly into an HDMI capable TV to confirm there are no issues with the console itself.

Go ahead and do a
hard reset and power cycle. Hold down the power button on the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down and then remove the power cable from the Xbox and the power outlet for about 2-3 minutes. Then re-connect and
turn on the Xbox.

If the sound does not improve then I don't believe the Xbox One will be compatible with the RCA receiver.

Why did you pay for an Xbox One with out a power source? How much does one pay for a non working console? The whole thing sounds fishy to me.

Sorry to hear about the sound issue! Are you only experiencing this issue with Far Cry 4? Let's start by power cycling your Xbox One console to clear the system cache:

• Press and hold the power button on the Xbox One console for 10 seconds, or until the unit is fully powered off.
  
• Unplug the power supply from the back of the Xbox One console and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  
• Plug the power back in and power on.

If that does not help, I would verify that the sound settings match up by following the steps on our

Configure Xbox One Audio page. Be sure to see if 'Stereo uncompressed' is checked in the 'Digital Audio' group. If it is not selected, select that and try to play the game.
