Xbox One (original) not Updating!

Bought an Xbox One secondhand that was factory reset. Tried updating multiple times and failed, used offline update (which I believe is out of date going by my research) and it still asked to update at setup. It is a mandatory update and it still isn't updating.
Verifying is stuck on 0%, though the first few times it got to applying update then failed.

I have tried restarting the console four times, reset the console once and don't think a factory reset would work. Due to the screen it is stuck on, I can't retrieve the build number or check the internet connection. (However, I do think it's fine since
my laptop is on the same network.)

No error codes have appeared and I can't find this particular issue in Microsoft support.

I've been trying to solve this since yesterday without any success, any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Edit: tried ethernet. Failure.

Would you be able to connect your console to your router via ethernet and try updating it that way?

Ethernet's the one thing I heard about that I haven't tried, mainly because I don't have a cable right now (hopefully I can get one tomorrow) but thanks for the suggestion.

hey man did you figure out the solution yet. I seem to have exact problem from about 2 weeks. update is stuck at 59% .Downloading and verifying is done. it is stuck at applying.

should i just throw my xbox one s in garbage? cauz I am not looking forward to pay 150$ for repair.

Please help if you can, I am really stuck.

Do i get any money for broken xbox anywhere or it goes in dumpster?

Managed to get hold of an ethernet cable from my neighbour, still not working.

The console itself may be old, but the One family is still very much in use so updates are still released occasionally. Once you update, the update is not deleted when you go offline. So you're not installing the same update each time.
