Xbox One optical drive is broken, options?

So today I completely disassembled the optical drive in my xbox one (Manufactured in November 2013) to retrieve the disc that was stuck in it. Manual eject wouldn't even work. A piece of a disc fell out, but not a piece of the one that was in there. I put
a 9 volt battery to the motor that runs the rubber roller that moves the disc in and out, probably the only way that it could be retrieved. Reassembled the console to test the drive. I left the rubber roller in the down position because it didn't go back
up manually or through the motor so I left it like that. Now it doesn't accept discs at all. Pretty sure the whole drive is junk. I would just buy a replacement drive, but apparently you need to take the board from the original drive and put it into the replacement
drive so it matches the motherboard. I'm afraid the drive's board is also problematic and I'll end up wasting at least $40. Also don't want to send it into Microsoft for $115 because that's pretty ridonculous and I don't have much faith in their ability. What
are my cheaper options, or am I probably SoL?

    :)

My Assassin's Creed III disc won't work on my Xbox, but works on others?

Maybe your optical driver is broken.

  3. Your disc drive will fail too!

lol Optical drives on the Original Xbox Console were junk. It took until 2004 for them to finally choose a manufacture of Quality Optical Drives.

Xbox 360 Phat (early gen 360's) were OK at best, but the Slim got an Optical Drive upgrade that were next to bullet proof. Don't know about the E models Optical Drives.

Xbox One's hit the market with a few broken Optical Drives right out of the box. Search "Day One Xbox One Drive noises/misreading..."

My X1, I have used for hours on end play Borderlands over the past 3 weeks, and thus far the only problem I have had is the system asking me if I own this game with the Disc in. Take out and reinsert the Disc, and all's well again. (Knock on Wood)

So I can only hope the Optical Drive is a quality one that will last long past warranties end.

Personal note: Do not put your finger in the center hole on the disc while inserting it. The Optical Drive will suck in the Disc faster than you'd expect it to. Thought I would loose my finger when it happened to me. That thing will not release the disc
until seconds later forcing you to loose some skin in order to get your finger out. Very painful.

Normally you would have to send it into Microsoft for repairs, but since you've opened they will no longer touch it. Self repair is a violation of the terms of service and cannot be discussed on the forums.

    Digital only console

I think microsoft will offer anything like that, the XBOX One ADE ist in my opinion an optional secondary console to one with an optical drive.

    Xbox one discs wont launch.

Sounds like you have an issue with the optical drive in the unit. Since it's from 2014, I'm assuming it's an original Xbox One and more than likely out of warranty. Without taking apart the console to clean the drive, there are several optical disc drive
cleaning discs on the market for around $10 USD. I just did a search and saw several options. Many of them have a little brush that attempts to clean the optical sensor on the drive. At this point this would be something to try, otherwise you will need to
replace the optical drive or send the unit in for repair.
