XBox One on larger monitors

I'm looking to get a new monitor and was interested in getting a 21:9 1440p monitor. However, as I use this monitor for my XBox One (as well as my PC) I wanted to know how it might behave. I know playing games at 21:9 1440p isn't supported by the XBox One but will it just be upscaled (like 480p and 720p consoles do on modern TVs)? and how will it deal with the 21:9 aspect ratio, will it stretch the image to fill the screen and make it look weird or leave black bars on the sides?

Visio 70' $400 Walmart is always on sale just have to catch it. I personally know it was already on sale over 4 times. I ended up grabbing one and my mom did also. My sister car was too small even out the box LOL!!!!

tbh I can put up with it looking a bit soft due to the display interpolating from 720p/1080p to 1440p so long as it doesn't try to stretch a 16:9 image to 21:9.

Xbox does not support ultra wide. Buy a TV instead. You can get a 65” for $1000 easy

They have different modes, you can stretch the image and then it will be virtually unplayable and look horrendously bad, or you will get black bars on the left and right. This is exactly the same way standard televisions and le 4:3 content. This is exactly the same way standard televisions handle 4:3 content

If you download the manual I’m sure you’ll find all about the mode settings and more details before you buy.

It's going to stretch. In my opinion, it's not worth the loss in quality. for PC gaming it'll look great, not so for console. You'd notice the difference if you placed a 16:9 native and 21:9 stretched together to see the difference in the picture quality.

One of the big reasons for the popularity of ultra wide screen on PC is to increase the FOV (field of view) on PC first person games, especially the esports titles. But on console it's generally not possible to increase these types of settings.

But of course, it's your decision in the end.

Xbox doesn't support ultra wide screen displays. The best you could get would be a stretched 1080P image with black bars.

Not only will the image be stretched, it will also appear slightly distorted/blurred/soft to the eyes. Monitors, just like TV's, work best at their native resolution. Anything else would need to be interpolated by the display and won't look very nice. It would only look good on a PC that supports that native resolution.

If you're also a PC gamer, the best option would be a 16:9 1440P monitor, I can't recommend a 4K unless your PC is either capable of 4K gaming (or approaching 4K) or you don't play high end games on your PC.
