Xbox One on 4k 120Hz Philips TV

Hiya, just bought a Philips 4k 120Hz TV but my Xbox One won’t work properly. I’ve tried changing the HDMI setting from Optimal (Auto game) to standard and managed to improve picture but every few seconds the screen briefly goes blank and this is a continuous cycle. I know original Xbox One isn’t 4K compatible but is there a way to get it working properly? Thank you

Hello Andyda8, unfortunately it is not possible, you have to leave your TV set to full HD (1080p) so that it can recognize the signal from xbox.

The Xbox One S, model that came next is that despite not having 4k for games, makes emulation of some games in 4k by interpolation.

Xbox One S and X does not support 4K at 120hz and to get 4K at 120hz you need a HDMI 2.1 port on both console and TV,

also the Xbox One S is a 1080p console that upscales to 4K unlike the One X which is 4K console.

The Xbox One X simply isn't powerful enough to output pretty much any game at 120Hz, the console will be sending out a 120Hz image, but that doesn't mean that the game will be running at 120Hz.

Its like setting your console to 1080p but displaying on a 4K TV, the TV still shows a 4K image, but that's because the image has been up-scaled to fill the 4K screen.

It's not 4K 120Hz, but it does support 1440P or 1080P at 120Hz and it's one of the few TV models that actually supports VRR with HDMI 2.0.

To achive 4K at 120hz your TV needs to have HDMI 2.1 ports and supports 120hz, such as the LG CX TV,

The bandwidth limit of HDMI 2.0 will only allow 4K at 60hz.
