    Xbox one offline update questions

So I just bought a x1 the other day and I 'm having trouble downloading the update. I'll get to 70% or sometimes 80% but then it will restart the update and it will go back to 0%. Or sometimes my console will shut off for no reason. So I'm going to try the
offline diagnostic tool. I have the correct OS version on my flash drive. I just have a few questions before I actually do it..

    (1) How many power up tones will I hear? 2 or 4?

    (2) When do I exactly release the bind and eject buttons?

    (3) If it works, when do I unplug the drive?

Thank you to anyone who can help answer any of these questions! I'm just confused and very nervous doing it.

    :)

All under Step 3: On your Xbox One console

    (1) - Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart.

    (2) - Press and hold the BIND and EJECT buttons on the console, and then press the Xbox button on the console. Continue holding the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.

Thanks for taking your time to help me out here! But I'm still a little confused, from what I read from older posts, some ppl heard 4 beeps instead of 2. And also from the link you gave me, they want you to unplug your drive during the console restart, but
some ppl unplugged it after the console restarted. Not sure what to do here.

    What does Automatic Updates do?

    Hi JacquelineDRU,

Thanks for asking this question on the forums. Automatic updates keep the console up to date with the latest operating system changes and game developers also put out updates to their games from time to time to have them perform in the best way possible
    as well.

That being said, in order to receive automatic updates, your console would need to be online, rather than offline, so that it may get these updates on a regular basis. Essentially, if you're in offline mode, you won't receive these updates which may
cause your console or games to act erratically.

Here are some support articles that may help you out as they have a lot of great information as well:

About system updates on Xbox One

    Updating your Xbox One console

Xbox One operating system versions and system updates

Using Xbox One offline << This contains exactly what your console can do in offline vs. online modes.

I hope that this information helps you out. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
