Xbox One - Now with less Kinect

Seriously, where do people get the idea that it being a part of the system means developers are going to be gun-ho about it? The Wii did and it was nothing more than gimmick and a fad.

Motion controls will never super-cede controllers for optimal gaming experience.

 

motion controls and controller can live side by side. motion controllers are not trying to kill the controller they will live fine side by side

 

it all depends on the type of games you play. Would you really enjoy playing a bowling game with a controller? I like having friends over for kinect sports. The local bowling alley is always overrun by hoodlums. While its not the same as having a real ball
in your hands its nice to relax with friends at home and not worry about safety. I like my controller to play CoD and Forza. I also like the Kinect head tracking in Forza. For me it gives it just a touch more realism. Looking forward to getting a racing wheel.
Controllers vary because games vary. Could you imagine house of the dead or duck hunt without a gun? Or guitar hero without the guitar controller? When it comes to games Kinect is just another controller. But when it comes to the X1 UI the Kinect is the way
to go IMO. Remember that a controller is just a device used to input commands. That said Im glad people have a choice. Its a shame they wont know what theyre missing. IMO people that hate the Kinect probly didnt want to take the time to really learn how to
use it. I like to experiment with the new tech because I refuse to be afraid of it. My mother still calls me up to put a dvd on the tv cause shes afraid if she starts pushing buttons she'll mess things up. I dont want to end up like that. Also Im not a couch
potato anymore. Over the last few years I dropped about 20lbs due to Kinect games. It doesnt feel like a chore the way going to the gym did ( for me anyway).

 

I'm with JPep on this 1 - I lost 30 lbs. in 3 months in large part to using the Kinect.

 

They say that without kinect that there is 10% more gpu bandwidth do those of us with kinect not get that advantage.

 

I suspect that you will get that advantage. However I also suspect that you're going to find Kinect disabled in games where developers want that power.

 

Anyone know if you can still use the Kinect to switch/snap apps while in a game that has disabled the Kinect? I'm assuming disabled means just that - disabled.

Microsoft seems to have assumed EVERYONE hates the Kinect now, leaving those of who had hopes for it in alot of confusion over what this means to us.

 

I would hope that you would still be able to use features and just leave Kinect out of the game. X1 is supposed to have multiple Operating Systems so one really shouldnt have anything to do with the other. But what do I know. Hopefully this will all become
clearer as things progress. As stated in numerous other threads the ten percent isnt really an increase in power. The power was there all along. They are just allowing devs to use it in ways that arent connected to Kinect. But im hoping its limited to the
gaming OS and doesnt mess with the OS for media. We shall see

 

Morris, those of us with Kinect DO get that advantage because every console is, was, and will be developed exactly the same. The way it works is that up until now, 10% of the GPU was solely used for the Kinect. MS has unlocked that via a software update
so that the developers can use that additional 10% of the GPU on things other than the Kinect. This is good for developers who decide not to use the Kinect as a feature in their games. This choice will be made by the developers on a game by game basis and
in all likelihood, you won't be able to tell the difference. If you have a Kinect plugged into your console with a game that uses up that 10% of the GPU for resources other than the Kinect, you will still get that additional 10% of GPU dedicated to the other
resources. Conversely, if your Kinect wasn't plugged in with a game that uses the 10% of your GPU towards the Kinect, that 10% of the GPU would STILL be used for the Kinect, even though it's not plugged in.

To put it in simplest terms, every console is EXACTLY THE SAME.

 

It also seems that negative threads seem to get more attention. Maybe instead of a positive thread about how good the new Kinect is Kinect supporters should start a negative thread about how under utilized it is, developers missing out on untapped potential,
yada yada yada.

 

If they open up 10% more resources to devs would the voice commands stay on?

 

Yes, Grady, you will still be able to use voice commasnds. The resources will only apply to the games & apps & whether they support the Kinect or not, not the system UI itself.
