"xbox one with out kinect is buying a system with half the functionality gone".

... and when I buy it, that'll be exactly the way I want it... not accounting for your exaggerations.
I guess they really wanted to bring this fight down to the games as that is the only advantage I see.
That's the way it should be. We all win!

I agree with CSB. I pretty much feel the same way except I've already bought it.

That's no exaggeration, though. Anyone who has been on this forum for a while knows I was a die hard kinect hater ever since it was introduced. Even when I first got my X1 I never used it. It was like the red headed step child that you lock in the closet
for fear of bringing shame to your family. After I broadened my horizons and started using it, I realized how essential it is to the functionality of the console. Obviously it's your prerogative if you choose not to use it. But you're missing out whether you
know it or not.

More functionality isn't always that great. My phone has tons of functions I will never use and I'd be annoyed if my phone cost an extra 100 bucks because of them.

I bet if you gave some of those functions on your phone a chance, you'd kick yourself for not using them sooner. I've had my Galaxy S4 for almost a year, and I'm still discovering new cool stuff it can do.

I've heard that argument about the Gold paywall when you are only using apps as well; "you just need to have to pay for them so that you'll end up using them and see how much you really need it and how essential these features are to the XBL experience."
May apply to you but not everyone, which is why it's important to be able to opt out of it.

That's where MS made the mistake; forcing it instead of simply encouraging it. It's good to see that they are correcting that.

@SwordStyle - Maybe but I still wouldn't be ok with the phone company charging an extra hundred and not giving me the option to opt out.

Paying extra for "functionality" that you have no interest in and no use for is stupid.

I think it is great that they are offering the option now at least you can make the choice on whether you want to use it or not. Options are always a good thing.

Options are not always a good thing. Why are game consoles closed devices to begin with?

XBox One Day One Edition - Still without Kinect.

You see, I have this ability to leave things I don't want in the box.

So I paid an extra $100.

Sony is not welcome in my home ever again.

my Kinect has it's place on the wall below the tv, love coming in at night from work at midnight and saying xbox on, watch tv and boom done, sit down, have a look whats on with smartglass and change channel with ease. then time for bed, "xbox off" "yes"
then the xbox, tv, surround and youview all turn off for me.

ms should have left it packaged then people who could not afford the extra £50 could just wait for the whole package to come down in price. This is just going to create a divide again where if dev think i have a great new idea to try with kinect they will
question how many of there user base have kinect. where as before they would not of worried about it.
