Xbox one not working anymore

Hello all. I’m reaching out for some tips on how to get the ole Xbox one running again, if possible. For my kids and family to play.

I quit playing it several years ago, as it started doing what it’s currently still doing.

It’s:

- very slow to startup

- won’t run any digital games

- slow to startup disc games (but plays most of them okay)

- won’t read some discs (no scratches on discs, the one in particular I’ve tried anyway)

- sometimes slow response to move curser with anolog stick

I’ve tried factory resetting it, which deleted all hard drive saves. It’s currently directly wired Ethernet. We have very fast 1gb speed internet. Tried resetting caches, restarting, etc.

When trying to play digital games it basically comes up and says “error took too long to load”, or takes so long to load that, after it finally does, it freezes.

What’s the issue here? I have Xbox 360 that still works fine. Does this Xbox one need taken apart and cleaned? Is that what’s causing the issue? Dust and stuff clogging something? Is the processor bad? I’m not sure at this point. Any help would be great. Thanks!

We understand that you're having trouble with your Xbox One. Based on the issues you've described, it's possible that the console's hard drive or disc drive may be failing. Before taking it apart, I would recommend trying a few troubleshooting steps first:

Clear the cache on your Xbox One by holding down the power button on the console for 10 seconds until it turns off, then unplug the power cord for 30 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on again.
Check for any available updates for your Xbox One by going to Settings > System > Updates.
Try a different internet connection or network cable to see if that improves the performance of digital games.
If you have an external hard drive, try installing games onto that instead of the internal hard drive.
Clean your console. Dus can cause overheating, which might lead to performance issues. If you feel comfortable doing so, you could try cleaning your console. However, opening your console can void the warranty and should only be done as a last resort.

If none of these steps work, it may be necessary to have the console repaired or replaced this only if the device still under warranty period. You can contact Xbox Support for further assistance with this.

Hello Julie,

Being the headset you have is a third party, when Microsoft puts out updates for the Xbox the third party accessories usually are affected as they firmware in them wont match what the Xbox has. There have been issues with this since last update. A work around
that has been found to work is either buy a chat pad or an adapter. These plug into the controller differently and have shown to work. Microsoft is aware of the issue with headsets not working and are looking into it.

Thanks for replying- we tried unplugging it but that didn't fix the issue and i've been on those help pages- thanks for the link to the adaptor- just can't quite believe that Microsoft would do this!

Sup500- We've had no problems in the past with it.

The Xbox doesn't even recognise that there's a headset plugged in at all, therefore no sound at all! Thanks for asking.
