Xbox One not turning tv on or off

it worked perfectly fine until the update occurred, but now it simply won't turn the tv off or on.

I've unplugged the power brick and re-input the tv under settings and it can send the mute command just fine, but won't do anything truly functional. It worked perfectly fine originally, but since the update its been completely inoperable.

anyone have any advice? it's really frustrating as it worked relatively well before the update. (occasionally it had hiccups and unplugging the power brick did the trick)

Xbox One turning off/on Xbox 360 when not connected.

Are you sure it's the 360 console turning on/off and not just the TV? If it's the TV, it's probable that the IR blasting that your Xbox One is doing to turn off its connected TV is also reaching the second TV and turning that one on and off.

 

Xbox one tv doesn't power on with start up

As of recently whenever I turn on my Xbox the tv doesn't turn on with it. This was not an issue before and nothing in my settings has changed. I have a 40 in Samsung model LN40D630M3F. I tried having the tv on prior to turning on the xbox to see if there
was any signal being sent and it resulted in the tv turning off with start up. Doing the opposite, I tried turning the console off while having the tv already off and the tv didn't turn on. It seems the Xbox can only turn the tv off.

Any one with a similar issue or a way to fix?

 

What brand and model of TV are you using? I have LG and it still works as does my Yamaha receiver.

 

I have a pioneer receiver and a samsung tv.

to make things even weirder I unplugged the power brick while i was out for a few hours and the xbox will power off my tv, but not power it on. the receiver still works fine and it's never had a problem

 

oh and the tv is a samsung UN55C8000

 

you might try to cycle the xbox by pressing and holding the power button down for 5-10 seconds, you will see the green screen with the xbox logo at start up. This may clear up the issue. If the xbox will turn the tv on it should be able to turn it off as
the off/on command on televisions are exactly the same.

 

I don't know if this is what happened, but the update may have reset your default On/Off settings.

If you go to your settings and select 'TV & OneGuide'. Then, choose your power settings and try looking to see if anything is unchecked when it shouldn't be.

 

@caprocasicks at least on my tv it's a separate command for on vs off. on my harmony remote I can go and hit on when its on or off when its off and it doesn't act like a power toggle.

@rustlebot the only thing not checked under my power setting is that the off command doesn't turn off my cable box. all the others are on.

 

@rustlebot thanks for having me look at the settings. for some reason after the update I had a generic samsung remote code instead of my exact tv model. Once i switched it back it works fine.

I'm assuming the generic samsung code has one code to send the IR for both on and off. very weird, I never changed that and there's no way my wife went that deep into the settings of this thing LOL
