Xbox One not shutting down properly

My Xbox One will only shut down by going to Settings --> All Settings --> Power & Startup --> Turn off or restart --> Full shutdown.

If I try to shut down by pressing the button on the front of the Xbox One or by holding the Xbox button on the controller, the system doesn’t fully shut down (the light on the power supply stays white). Only when I shut down through the settings menu does
the system completely shut down (light on the power supply goes orange).

This is only a recent thing, before the most recent update I didn’t have this problem. Not sure if it makes any difference, but I also have an external HDD attached to my console, but the HDD has been there since way before this problem started to occur.

Also note that I have always had my console set to ‘Energy-saving mode’ not ‘Instant On’.

Do you know if it's possible that could damage anything? You know, by not shutting down properly.

Starting up a profile

Is she properly shutting down, or just pressing the power button so it turns off?

Hey there Wizard WC.

To start out, can you try switching to Instant On, power cycle your Xbox One by holding down the power button for 8-10 seconds and then once it's started back up try switching it to Energy-saving mode? Keep us in the loop if there's any change with that.

I tried what you said, no change. I also did a reset and it still won't fully shut down unless I go thought the settings and select Full Shutdown.

I have just had this happen tonight on my PC. On first launch it said the game hadn't shut down properly last time, but it was shut down properly and only last night. When i logged on, it was as if I had never played the game, I was back to level one, all my unlocks etc gone.
