Xbox One not sending signal to turn controller off after selecting to shutdown

This is a very odd issue, and I will try to explain it the best I can.

Pressing and holding the Xbox home button on the controller until the on screen menu to shutdown controller or shutdown system appears, I choose "Console off". The console appears to be shutting down, the Kinect light (glowing white X) turns
off and then the Xbox One console on light (glowing white X) turns off. The controller stays on and I am no longer able to turn the console back on with the controller. I have to press the on button on the console itself, for it to go back on and the controller
works fine. I started to have this issue since the 14th July 2014.

    Weird?! YES

So I go through settings and see that if i turn off "Instant On" (selecting energy saving) in power settings, the console, Kinect and controller shutdown using the "Console Off" option from the controller. The controller is now successfully able to turn
the console back on. Back to "Normal".. but this is a work around.

I contact MS Support. I explain the issue and try to get them to understand the situation. I called on 3 separate occasions.

1st guy was nice enough, logged the call, gave me an email with the service request number and said to return the console to the retailer and get a new one. Done, plugged in all new console and controller (everything is new), ran first update and then signed
in. Tried to shut down the console, same thing happened - the controller stayed on and the console is shut down.

2nd guy was also nice (sort of), but said unfortunately i must have got another "bad" console and that they were aware of this issue and I needed to replace it again. He said he will be forwarded the issue to their technical team and would give me a phone
call with any update information on a possible resolution, and some sort of compensation for the trouble (still haven't heard back from him). I returned the console and got another BRAND new console (everything new in the box). Again, ran update, signed in
and tried to shut down. BOOM same issue. WTF! Now i'm getting a little bit irritated.

3rd guy was really hopeless and kept asking me to repeat what the issue was even though all the information was given to him (service issue number) and a brief explanation. I asked to him if he could see the update on the request from the 2nd guy, and he
said there are no details of my phone call from the 2nd guy.. So... im starting to get a bit frustrated as the second guys wasn't as nice as he portrayed himself. I then spent an hour trying to explain the problem and tried supposed "fixes" like turning off
instant on and auto sign in from Kinect. I advised him that turning off instant on resolved the issue, but is only a work around. Turning off auto sign in from Kinect made no difference. He then started to suggest that the Xbox instant on feature alway leaves
the console on using 2 of the 8 cores to manage updates etc. I kindly advised I am aware of why and how, but i'm not convinced that my controller should be on and stays on even though I have selected my console to shut down. That doesnt make sense? He then
then said i need to return that console and get another one.... and i said just put me through to your manager.

4th guy (Manager) started off with the same 2 cores on out of 8 blah blah... I said so your telling me the issue i am having is normal? he said "yes, the controller will stay on after you shut down the console and you have to turn it back on from the console
itself to bring it back on". I said I have had the Xbox since day 1 and this is now the 4th console I have replaced due to various issues. I have only encountered this issue since the middle of this month, and have replaced the console 3x just this month but
the whole time before that, the console and controller would shut down simultaneously. Is this a new feature? I asked. "No, there were no updates released this month" he said. I tried to explain WOW this guy really instills me with confidence.

Frustrated? YES Irritated? YES. So I created this video and stuck it on YouTube to show the issue:

I have tried various methods to try and isolate the issue, though nothing seems to work. To have changed the console and have it happend again on all 3, is bizarre. Any suggestions (aside from sell it and get a PS4)?

    :)

    Powering and contoller issues

Alright to start off my contoller will not turn on my xbox one after the first time that I hard reset it or switch power options. After I turn the xbox on by saying "xbox on" and shut it down by holding the xbox button on the controller and selecting turn
console off, the controller will then not shut off. I have changed the batteries, switched to rechargeable batteries, done a hard reset, and switched power options

    Xbox One shutdown on inactivity

Hey guys, I've tried to look this up. But I've told my Xbox One to shutdown or go to sleep after 1 hour of inactivity.

How do I know when the console automatically shuts down or is on instant wake mode? Right now I mainly use it to watch TV, but I've noticed if I turn off the cable box, the Xbox one shows on screen that there is no HDMI signal and just stays on that screen.
There have only been a few times that I've had to say Xbox On for it to turn on. It seems like if I'm in TV mode and I turn off the cable box, the Xbox One will not go to sleep or shutdown after an hour.

My main concern is, I want my Xbox One to go into sleep mode or instant on mode after 1hour of inactivity when there is no HDMI signal going to it. Not stuck on a screen saying please plug in an HDMI connection.

    Thanks Guys

Xbox One not sending signal to turn controller off after selecting to shutdown

Having the exact same issue with my console. Besides not turning the controller off after the system shuts down, the controller will not turn system on. This just started happening, maybe after the last system update. Very frustrating!

  6. this has started happening to me over and over again just the last few weeks... really getting annoying my controller doesnt turn off with the console half the time, then the other half of the time it wont turn it on or it wont work at all... not to mention
even when it does work sometimes it wont pick up my headset adapter and i cant talk in party chat... im hoping next months update does something to remedy this because it was fine all the other months ive had it, also was curious about the headset usb thing?
guess i'll try running it powered off my pc but still pretty *** that this all of a sudden is an issue when it wasnt previously

Yeah my Astra A50 wireless headset receiver is powered by USB. Once removed from my Xbox it started working properly and shutting down the controller with the console.

I had it plugged in from Day One and only just this month is when it played up like this. Its weird because the only thing that USB cable is doing is sending power to the device. Hope that helps

Xbox One Controlling Other Device in Same Room

Yeah it's simple really. Just like universal remotes the Xbox One can be programmed to send out an Infrared signal which is a 4 digit string of numbers that TVs convert into an action. Plus most commands are identical and are shared through many product
series. Thing about the Xbox One Kinect IR Blast is that it pretty much saturates the entire room with the signal which can bounce of walls so any device in the same room listening for that signal is also going to get it.

I had to turn off the on off function on mine because when it boot or shutdown it would turn off my other TV or turn it on which got annoying. I kept the volume and channel controls though because they are pretty convenient.
