  1. XBOX One Not recognizing External Hard Drive as USB 3.0

I am trying to use a Samsung SHP-ZA10K 1TB external hard drive for games and apps on a XBOX One console.

    It is definitely USB 3.0.

The XBOX will not recognize the drive unless I use a powered USB Hub (Plugable USB3-HUB81X4 USB 3.0 super speed hub)

The XBOX will recognize the drive for media but I cannot format for games and apps.

When selecting the drive via Settings -> System -> Storage, I receive 2 options:

    1 - View Contents

2 - set as capture location

"View contents" sends me to the store or a media viewer.

"set as capture location" gives me an error code of 0X80bd003b "Try a different device. To capture game clips and screenshots externally, storage must be USB 3.0 or faster. This device is too slow."

My PC can access the drive no problem. The drive has one NTFS partition on it.

I have tried the drive in all 3 USB ports on the XBOX One. All 3 ports require a powered USB Hub in order to be recognized.

I have tried all of the support and forum suggestions that I can find, and I cannot make this drive work. It fits the criteria!?

    Please help.

How do I format an external Seagate hard drive that was used for Xbox One back to Windows?

    Sourbucket,

A lot of folks have had issues with the USB cable. Try using a different USB 3.0 cable and see if the Xbox One will recognize the drive. Obviously, the external hard drive has to be at least 256 GB and using USB 3.0 as well. Let us know your results. Thanks,

    External Hard Drive

External drives must be at least 256GB and support USB 3.0 on Xbox One. Slower USB 2.0 drives are not supported, ensuring data will transfer very quickly between your console and the drive.

Is it a USB 3.0 drive?

If you connect it to a PC is it recognized there?

Seagate external hard drive for Xbox one x

Is your Seagate drive a USB 3.0 drive. If it is a USB 1 or 2 then it will not be fast enough to work on the Xbox One. You would need to purchase a USB 3.0 external hard drive for it to work.

Can you transport Xbox 360 / One games on a Harddrive of some sort on a Series X?

If you have an Xbox One with an external USB 3.0 hard drive connected to it with games installed on it. Then just disconnect the drive from the Xbox One, and connect it to the Series X, the drive should be recognized, and you should be able to play the games without having to install them.

    Hard drive

Is the external hard drive 3.0 usb or higher? If not, it won't work with the Xbox One.
