Xbox one not reading game discs

I've had this problem awhile now, since day one of buying it nearly 2 years ago, it will read DVDs music, and disc containing photos, but not games, it apparently attempts to load them, then after 10 minutes of trying it forces a shutdown, if I try to
turn on the xbox while the disc is in, it stays on the green startup screen and forces shutdown after 5 minutes, another issue with this is, I can not retrieve disc from the xbox, I have to hold the power button and turn it back on through the disc eject button
to get my disc back. Once in a blue moon, meaning I have to repeat the disc eject and reload nearly a 100 times to get to play a disc, if I shut off or restart the xbox when it does load, I have to repeat the process again.

The games arent the issue, as none of them have a scratch or smudge of any kind on them, perfect reflections on all.

Any idea as to why it does this and an answer on how to fix it, would be greatly appreciated...

Xbox One not reading discs

1. Make sure your console is plugged into an outlet, NOT power surge or power protector.

2. Settings >disc and blue ray > blue ray > persistent storage > clear persistent storage.

3. Settings > power and start up > turn off or restart > restart now

4. Repeat step 2

5. Power cycle the console by holding the power button for 10 seconds, and unplugging the console from the wall for 30 seconds.

have you tried factory resetting? if that doesn't work you may have to repair it.

I've tried factory resetting multiple times, and repairing is not an option, I've no money to do so. I only managed to get it because it was refurbished, it was labeled as perfect working order... I knew there was going to be some bugs, but nothing as
serious as this.

I heard that some of the older models had this weird issue and the fix was to set the console to energy saving mode. Also try disabling the BD Improve in the Disk and Blu-ray settings. Or try tilting the consoles front end up slightly. If its a hardware
issue then maybe try a local microsoft store for some advanced troubleshooting. Good Luck!

It's not the discs it's your console. If your console can not read DVD movies then it won't read Xbox 360 games either. DVD movie discs use the same type of discs that 360 games use (DVD-9).

The Xbox One has two lasers to read discs. One for Blu-rays - which Xbox One discs games are made of - and one for reading DVD's and Xbox 360 games.

Do other BC Xbox 360 game discs work on your Xbox One? For the Xbox One to recognise the game and download it from Live it must:

Be able to read the disc. Check if the disc is dirty or damaged
Have a working Optical drive capable of reading Xbox 360 discs. Try other BC discs or test a DVD movie.

The Xbox One has two diodes for reading discs in the optical Blu-ray Drive. A red laser is used to read Xbox 360 and DVD movies and a blue laser to read Xbox One games and Blu-ray movies. If the diode for reading DVD's is faulty, BC Xbox 360 discs won't
work.

I take it Blu-Ray disc movies are working okay? Have you tried many of the ones you own? Games are detected?

Bear in mind that the Xbox One S, One X and the current Series X actually have two lasers, one for reading DVD discs (including Xbox 360 discs) and one for reading Blu-Ray discs, which also includes Xbox games as they are also on BD-Disc.

If the DVD laser is giving out, it won't read certain DVD discs, and this is likely the reason for the issues you are experiencing. This is also why Blu-Rays and Xbox One games are not effected. There is nothing wrong with your DVD's, it's the console's optical drive that is faulty.

The optical drive in the Xbox One is a Blu-ray drive. Xbox One discs are on Blu-ray disc, same as HD Blu-ray movies. Xbox 360 games came on DVD disc.

Oversimplifying my explanation a little, the Xbox One has separate lasers for reading DVD discs than it does for reading Xbox One blu-ray discs.

The laser that is used to read DVD's has failed. This isn't a software issue, it's a hardware one. Unfortunately you can't fix this yourself, you'll need your console repaired. Sorry.

Sorry about your problem there.

If the power cycle doesn't work, then I'm sorry but your console will require a repair.

The drive that reads discs in your Xbox One is a Blu-ray optical drive. It uses a blue type laser to read the data etched into the Blu-ray discs that Xbox One game discs use. Xbox 360 discs on the other hand are DVD discs. DVD discs are read by a red laser.
Both the red and the blue lasers are built into the consoles optical drive as a complete package.

Sometimes one of the laser mechanisms will fail. So you'll either have Xbox One discs (and Blu-ray films) read fine, but DVD discs - both Xbox games, and DVD movie discs - not be read. It can also happen the other way around.

There is no way to fix this yourself. You would have to send the whole unit off to Microsoft for a repair.
