Xbox One not reading external hard drives

Recently my boyfriend has started having issues with his Xbox One(original) reading his external hard drive. At first we just thought it was the hard drive giving up, but we have tried three separate hard drives and in all the different USB ports and it won't register when he goes into games and apps, but it shows up listed in the storage section of the settings. We tried the power cycle, and the different ports and checking his power settings but nothing has worked so it appears his ports have just randomly decided they don't want to work properly as far as reading any external devices??

Does any one else have this issue or have any other ideas on what else to try?? We're at a bit of a loss on what else to do, and the usb ports seem like a silly reason to get a whole new console so we're hoping something will work??

    :)

    Using a portable HDD

The small print at the bottom of the page that I linked for you mentions:

"USB flash drive is not a hard drive."

Xbox's connection with an external drive is read-only. You can only read files that are already on the drive after connecting. You can't save game files or anything else on the Xbox main drive onto an external hard drive.

I'm Samy an independent advisor. Welcome to the Xbox community. How are you?

Remove the hard drives connected to the console and reset the console to factory defaults, you won't lose anything but you will need to log in with your account again. Email and password are required.

Follow this path and select reset keeping games and app.
In 5 to 10 minutes you will finish reconfiguring your console

    To reset the console>
    Settings> System> Console Info> Reset Console

***Do not reset your console without having your account email and password.***

After resetting the console, connect the external hard drive and see if it solves the problem.
