    Hello,

    Just like the title says, my Xbox One doesn't play any Blu Rays or DVDs. I've tried several of each and uninstalled and reinstalled the Blu Ray app several times to no avail. I checked for any updates and there weren't any available. I just want to be able
    to watch movies on my $500 Xbox, is that too much to ask?

    If there are any other reported cases of this happening or if there is a fix to the problem, please let me know, because after a lot of searching I haven't found any.

    My Xbox One has a problem where it will not play any DVDs I own but has no problem playing the Blu-rays. The error is to please insert a valid Blu-ray or DVD but my DVD is valid. Please help.

    Yes, Xbox One can play both Blu-ray and DVD movies. No HD DVD

    Hi there have you tried deleting and reinstalling the blu ray app, if that doesnt work try a hard reset of the console by holding your finger over the power button for 5-10 seconds.

    I've tried reinstalling the blu ray app and doing the hard reset several times with no luck. I've considered resetting the Xbox to the factory default but I don't know if that will affect my online profiles on games like Battlefield so I've been hesitant
    to do so.

    Power Cycle your system

    Shut it off

    Unplug it and leave it sit for half a minute

    Press and hold your finger on the power sensor that turns it on, do this for 30 seconds

    Plug it back in and then try it

    Try replacing the HDMI cable. I had this problem and the HDMI cable the XBOX came with failed. I replaced it with one laying around the house and that didn't work either. I tried a third one I had laying around the house and that fixed my problem.

    Each Xbox One console is manufactured for a specific Blu-ray and DVD region, following international standards. The Xbox One console can play Blu-ray discs and DVDs that are sold in the same region as the console.

    Some Blu-ray discs and DVDs are not region-encoded or are coded to all regions. Region-free Blu-ray discs and DVDs will play on any Xbox One console.

    DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

    No I would expect a blu ray player to play DVDs as good as a standalone DVD player. Blu Ray players don't magically improve DVDs. The problem would appear to be that the One blu Ray player doesn't perform well when playing DVDs in comparison to other
    Blu Ray players.

    Hi,

    Verify that your consoles drive is functioning. Try playing a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray disc.

    If your console will not play DVD then the drive has hardware fault.

    There are two lasers in the blu-ray drive. One for reading DVD and Xbox 360 games and another for Xbox One and Blu-ray discs.

    Hi,

    Sounds like the laser in your console's Blu-ray drive has a hardware issue.

    To test if your Xbox One X has issues reading discs, try playing a DVD movie disc. If can't read DVD movie discs either then your console has a hardware fault.

    Note: It must be a DVD movie disc, not a Blu-ray movie disc.

    There are two lasers in the Blu-ray drive, one for reading Blu-ray discs and one for DVD discs. Xbox One games use Blu-ray and the 360 console used a DVD drive.
