XBOX ONE NOT PICKING UP VOICE THROUGH MICROPHONE (PARTY, MULTIPLAYER, VOICE MESSAGING OR SKYPE)

    Hi,

Recently I purchased the 1TB xbox which includes the new controllers that don't require a headset adapter. Everything worked fine for a couple of weeks. Yesterday I joined a party with friends as I usually do and found that nobody could hear me talking.
The chat circle next to my name on the party snap would no turn on as I spoke. Immediately of course I checked if my microphone was muted, it was not. I joined a fireteam (playing destiny at the time) same thing. Reset my console, same thing. Tried sending
a voice message, nothing. Long story short, I've tried basically everything short of spending additional money to troubleshoot this, and it is driving me crazy! For obvious reasons I don't believe I should be spending any more money than I already have. I've
read numerous 50 page long threads with people having the same problem with no solution.

    Xbox Controller Firmware version

    2.3.2359.2

    Xbox One console OS version

    6.2.13194.0 (xb_rel_1507.150702-2154) fre

    Last Updated

09/07/2015 3:39am (Note that was working fine for weeks after this update)

    Location

    Brisbane, Australia

In order to avoid generic copy pasta responses, I've tried everything listed below:

    1. Adult privacy & online safety settings

    3. Ports 88,3074, 53 and 80 forwarded with DMZ off

    4. DMZ turned on with all ports forwarded

    5. DMZ turned on with no ports forwarded

    6. Multiple headsets (all of which work on PC and have formerly worked on the xbox)

    7. Power cycled (holding power for 10 seconds and removing powersupply cord)

    8. Re-selecting profile by pressing home button and choosing "Chose this person"

    9. Connecting to an alternative profile

    10. Fiddling with the rechargeable bettery pack

    11. Removing the battery pack and operating via USB

    12. Updating controller with and without battery pack

    13. Changing power modes. From Instant-on to energy-saving and vise versa

    14. Clearing persisent storage in Disc & Blue-ray settings (Yes i got desperate)

    15. Automatic DNS settings

    16. Automatic IP settings

    17. Clearing alternate MAC address

    18. UPnP enabled in modem settings

    19. Test call in Skype app did not work either

Note: Nat is OPEN "All services are available"

    What I have not done

    1. Tried a second controller. I refuse to purchase a second controller just to test this. My reasoning is as follows. Firstly, I know the xbox controller is able to process my voice

as it is responsive to changes in the "Mic monitoring' variable within the controller settings. I can hear my own voice getting louder as I adjust the mic mointoring volume higher. Secondly,

there are people with similar issues on the forum that have tried a 2nd controller and that has no worked for them.

    2. Tried a Kinect. I have purchased this xbox brand new with no Kinect so as far as I'm aware no Kinect has been connected to this device.

I refuse to purchase a Kinect as it has zero value to me and cannot justify a $170 AUD purchase to test this theory.

Anybody have any ideas XBOX ONE NOT PICKING UP VOICE THROUGH MICROPHONE (PARTY, MULTIPLAYER, VOICE MESSAGING OR SKYPE) :(?

    Cheers in advance!

    :)

What happened to the dashboard? What went wrong? Why everything is so DAMM HARD in Xbox One?

Skype now? No. Did you not own an xbox 360? Voice messaging is a key feature. Skype can't replace the function of voice messaging.

    Voice messages...

Yes there are those of us who are denied the ability for voice messages. Me and my friends which include a full 360 friends list genuinely use voice messaging and txt messaging. On Xbox 1's Skype app you CANT open voice messages because all you get is "this
version of Skype doesn't support that yet" an Xbox 360 friend sent me one, and the only reason why I have Skype is because of Xbox 1. Just Like to video chat on 360 you need Video Kinect, to video chat on Xbox 1 you need the Skype app. It is an Xbox feature
which tonnes of peps use on Xbox 360 so they should make Voice Messaging interchangeable between at least all Xbox 1 consoles which use Xbox Live.

Have the EXACT same problem. Only mine doesn't work out of the box. Really irritating me, bout to just send the *** thing back, basic feature doesn't work at all. Tried everything you've tried. Nothing wrong with my headset, works when I plug it into an
ipad. i'm thinking something is wrong with the 3.5mm jack on the controller. Wired incorrectly or something.

Yeah Ghostly it's extremely irritating. I don't think the 3.5mm jack on the controller is the problem for me as the Xbox is responsive to changes in the mic monitoring volume settings. Obviously the controller works and the mic also works. Seems like a software/firmware
    issue to me...

I HAVE IDENTIFIED THE CULPRIT! It is the 3.5mm slot on the Xbox One controller.

So I took all my gear to a friends house to test everything out on his network with his Xbox One and equipment. Synced my controller to his Xbox and had the same problem. I then plugged in his Xbox headset adapter to my setup (He has an older controller
without the headset jack) and everything worked smoothly if I used a headset adapter.

So, the problem is either the headset jack on my controller or something to do with the firmware that prevents the jack from being used properly. The only reason I'm hesitant to just say it is a faulty 3.5mm connector on the controller is because my mic
is responsive to the mic monitoring volume controls on the Xbox. Then again, I'm no mic expert so it may very well be a faulty controller.

Sucks that I need to get an adapter now to get a headset working on my controller that supposedly doesn't need one...

I will mark this as solved once I get my own headset adapter tomorrow and have everything running smoothly

So it works when you get an adapter? So microsoft released these new controllers with a 3.5mm jack only to still require the use of an adapter? Ugh....

    Sorry to hear that Apex.

Yes Ghostly, confirmed for me at least. I guess if you are willing to return it and get a replacement then you shouldn't have to pay.

  11. I went and bought a second controller (Not happy about that). But the second controller works fine. Sooo, that tells me it's more than likely the 3.5mm jack that is broken.

Amazon won't exchange just the controller XBOX ONE NOT PICKING UP VOICE THROUGH MICROPHONE (PARTY, MULTIPLAYER, VOICE MESSAGING OR SKYPE) So I have to either 1. Exchange the entire console losing days worth of downloads and installs. 2. Ship the controller back to Microsoft where I have to pay for shipping and wait for weeks to get it back...

Microsoft needs better support for exchanging single components that came with the console! I shouldn't have to wait 3 weeks to get a replacement from them and I definitely shouldn't have to pay shipping.

    Voice messages...

The initial reason why you couldn't party chat or send voice messages between the 360 and the One, is because the One uses a higher quality codec for voice communications (Skype codec if I remember correctly). There are plenty of machines out there that
are on different architectures that can communicate over skype with each other, with no issues whatsoever. Why can't the 360 not get an updated voice codec to use in it??

Can you talk in a party with people on Xbox 360?

    DustinOrdene,

You are not able to use solely the Xbox to voice message, voice chat, or voice party cross-platform. Cross-platform Skype is a different situation altogether.

Before going any further, have you tried seeing if your microphone works via xbox party chat or through a voice message?

    Xbox App Microphone Problem

Last I heard (maybe a month ago?), the Xbox app would only allow you voice communication in messages and parties if the microphone was connected through a controller. I'm not sure if this has changed recently.

It isn't ideal, but try hooking up a controller to your PC, and then the microphone through that. If that works, that may be a temp solution for now.
