    Xbox One Not Picking Up External Hard Drive


    I bought a USB external hard drive (WD My Passport Ultra 1Tb) about 3 months ago for my xbox one to store games on it because the built in 500gb ran out of space. I've never used the external hard drive for anything else so it's always pugged into my xbox
    one, the one time I take it out of my xbox (The xbox one wasn't plugged in) and once I was done with it I go to put it back in and it isn't recognised. So I go for the simple option of plugging it in and out again that triggered a message to configure and
    format for xbox one use, I plugged it in again no message, no picking it up in my games and apps and in manage storage. Also there is a solid white light on the external hard drive and I can feel that it is spinning from it vibrating.

    What do I need to do to make it fully reconised again?

    Is there a way to format an external hard drive so that I can use it on a pc?

    I was using a 1TB external hard drive with my XBox One. I upgraded to the Xbox One S and I do not need the external hard drive anymore. Is there a way to reformat the external hard drive so that I can use it as a back up for my pc? Any help would be much
    appreciated.

    Just unplug it, for the love of all your files unplug it. Mine went rogue today and decided that my HDD wanted to be formatted to it. And now all my movies,files,pictures are all gone from existence as I deleted everything from my comp. Which also was using
    the HDD as a boot, which is gone now...

    Did you change the internal hard drive with a new one or are you struggling to get an external hard drive to be picked up by the console?

    Changing the internal hard drive goes against the Code of Conduct and you risk getting the console banned. Any warranty you had on the console will be void if you open the console.

    Best is to use an external hard drive.

    If you struggling to get the external picked up by the console then you should check the link provided by the other Ambassador.

    I'd check the power on the external hard drive too. Make sure it's all plugged in to a working outlet and make sure it's switched on, and check all the plugs to the Xbox One to make sure it's hooked up properly. If it's still not connecting, it might be
    an issue with the hard drive itself. The Xbox One should pick it up and register it being there if it's hooked up and turned on. Good luck, I hope it fixes soon!

    so your complaint is because your internets is not fast enough ? I know the hard drive ain't the greatest but buying an external hard drive can pick em up quite cheap
