    So it's not an internet connection issue, but all the same I haven't had the problem happen in a few days, whereas it used to be a daily or every second day issue. Unfortunately I never took notice to how long my achievement background was gone so I don't
    know if that was a contributor to the issue, but the fact that it went away on its own is a sign of a software bug.

    In a way I'm glad it appears to be a bug. At least it's likely to go away of it's own accord as quickly as it started, or at least get fixed at some point. Hopefully!

    It certainly seems more likely to be a bug than a fault with my console.

    I've never actually sat and left the circle spinning to see if it will actually sort itself out, maybe I should, but it just ses quicker to switch it completely off and start again. Yes, it takes a few minutes, and it's far from ideal having to do it so
    often, but I might leave it doing whatever it's doing and still have to reboot.

    It's inconvenient, but at least it still seems to download updates and any games or add ons that I buy, so that part of the whole instant on thing is still a benefit.

    I haven't really let it sit for very long either, but a friend of mine let it sit at one point for up to 20 minutes with no change so it will either take an excessive amount of time or not come back at all.

    To Spilly42, you certainly are not alone, what you described is identical to my problem. Have a read through this thread and see if you find anything helpful or can offer anything specific about your setup or usage that may help narrow this down.

    Hey everyone!

    Sorry to hear about the app issues, I can definitely understand how frustrating that could be. I recommend trying a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can get this issue sorted.

    Please give the following steps a try:



    • First, from the Dashboard, press the Menu button on your Xbox One controller.
    • Select Settings and then select Disc & Blu-ray.
    • Under BLU-RAY, select Persistent Storage.
    • Select Clear Persistent Storage.
    • Once you have cleared persistent storage, remove your profile from your Xbox One console.
    • Press and hold the power button on your Xbox One console for 10 seconds.
    • Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord.
    • Wait 5 minutes and then plug in your console.
    • Power on your console and Add your profile on to your Xbox One console.
    • Try opening an app.

    Give the suggested steps a try and let us know how it goes.

    Here's some updated info that may help with diagnosing and resolving this issue:

    While I've had the issue for quite a while, it has changed a bit since the December 1st update. Since this update, I've had PRECISELY what Grooner has described. The system boots up but all of the icons simply show spinning wheels and the console won't
    sign in or run any apps. Like I said, it's precisely what Grooner has described, but only since the recent update. It's possible that this may be a separate issue entirely, although the effects are near identical.

    Also, I will try the suggestions provided by mr. Quimby and report back on the results after enough time has passed to definitively say whether or not it has worked.

    At any rate, thank you very much for acknowledging the problem and helping us to resolve it, Mr. Quimby. It's nice to get some official word on the matter and know that it's being taken seriously. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    I have to add after reading the suggestions from support:

    It says to follow those steps, try opening an app and see how it goes. I think for most of us, when we perform a hard shutdown, the issue stops... but only temporarily. So, if we follow those steps (which involves a hard shutdown), we will certainly be
    able to open an app in the immediate moment that we boot up the console... but this doesn't actually indicate that the problem is resolved, as many of us are having this problem on a daily basis.

    I'll try it nonetheless.

    As an update for me. It's been probably 2 weeks without incident and the only thing that I can think of that has changed is that the dashboard background which was an achievement image had disappeared unexpectedly, likely after the umpteenth hard reset.
    Since this time the Xbox has not frozen. It seems this particular issue has multiple causes.

    The issue previously described hasn't happened for a while... (but not quite long enough to say definitively that it's fixed). However, JUST as that issue stopped, a new issue has started happening, which leads me to think that it's essentially a new version
    of the same error since the update.

    Now, my console can't stay in "instant on" mode for more than a day or 2 before it fails and shuts down completely on it's own... even when it's "off" (in standby), not in use. While it's "off" (sitting on standby) with a white power brick light, the light
    turns orange inexplicably, and when I boot it up, it's as if I've just done a hard shutdown. It's the same frequency as the last error, and it has more or less the same results, so I think it's some form of the same thing.

    I am having the same issue also been goin on for about 2 months now on and off. I don't have the master chief collEcton either. I am wondering if this is good enough cause to send the one back...surely this 9 about as bad as the ring off death on 360. Microsoft
    get ur finger out and get it fixed or psi here we come.

    As always I appreciate the reply, Mr. Quimby!

    I have my console plugged directly into the wall. It's been quite a while since the console has had the issue where it won't open any apps... I've kept track of it very closely. The weird thing is that as soon as that issue stopped, this new one began
    (where it can't stay in instant on). When I got the December 2nd update, the first issue stopped happening, and the new one began.

    I've had the exact same set up for 7 months. Nothing has changed, and I've never had this new issue before. It's never had trouble staying on standby in instant on mode before. Also, I've never experienced any sort of power outage in all the many hours
    I've spent gaming on the machine, yet this issue occurs daily, which tells me that it's not an issue with my power.

    Another user, PlayerXXX describes having experienced the same issue (among others) in this thread-

    I'm hoping that this error gets fixed in the next software update, as all my previous errors have. I hope that this information helps! Any further official reply will be appreciated. Thanks!

    I am having the same issue also been goin on for about 2 months now on and off. I don't have the master chief collEcton either. I am wondering if this is good enough cause to send the one back...surely this 9 about as bad as the ring off death on 360. Microsoft

    I am also having the same issue. and have done since day 1, I came onto the forums to check if others are affected. I have to hard reset 1 in 3 times of booting up the console? Since I have started using the TV tuner this has become really annoying. I initially
    thought it was because I had to wait for the pins to load but even that makes no issues, I just get the error box where my pins and apps etc. are meant to be that says it might be a problem Xbox's end. Every time a hard reset fixes and allows me to use the
    console again.
