Xbox one not letting me choose my external NTFS drive as a capture location

Just to add-on to what the moderator pointed out already.

"When you first connect, Xbox will prompt you to format your device. You can use it for Xbox games and apps, or for personal media such as pictures, music, and video. (Xbox will treat devices that don’t
meet the above requirements as media storage.)"

It sounds like the format isn't correct to what the xbox reads for its requirements.

Make sure it is usb 3.0.Also try going into settings-storage and setting it as the default drive.

Thanks for coming to the forums. With issues like this first try and
power cycle the console. If that doesn't work you may need to reformat the external hard drive. If you have a different console try plugging the External HD into it see if it recognizes it.

There is only a finite space on the console internal drive to store captures.

To my understanding, if you make a lot of game clips and screenshots that space is quickly used up and any subsequent captures will overwrite the oldest file on the drive if its full. This space is a reserved area in the system area and not the entire drive space.

If you upload your captures to the Xbox Network and/or OneDrive you can safely delete the captures on the internal drive using Manage captures on xbox console.

The alternative is to connect a external drive, formatted to NTFS, and change your capture location to the external drive. Be aware that this option doesn't allow sharing on the Xbox Network.

Clips take up a lot more of your internal drive space than screenshots.
